    I Need "PROFESSIONAL A/C" Assistance

I put "professional" in quotes because I don't need a company that has just been in business for a couple of years, and that only have experience in general tune ups and repairs.

I need someone that has the tools and know how to come to my house, look at my system, and let me know what work needs to be done. Or even tell me exactly what my house needs if my system is not enough. Not a rule-of-thumb, but what I need based off square footage, ceiling height, windows, etc.

For my issues, they need to have the ability to calculate CFMs, duct size and if mine are set up correctly, return size and if I need more of them.

I am not trying to be offensive, but I'm tired of being told that companies come in and put the system in as cheaply as possible and that my system is running fine. It's not running fine to me when I barely feel any air coming from the majority of the vents, and that my house struggles to stay at the set temperature of 76 throughout the day.

I have changed my thermostat, my coil, and my supply plenum. The tech said everything is fine. That's at 8 am when it doesn't take that much work for it to cool. The rest of the day sucks.

Sorry for the long, frustrating post.

Have you checked your duct runs to make sure they are connected and taped off properly? What about at the plenum?

Sounds like you want someone to run a heat load or whatever they call it.

On a side note, we are one of the largest commercial refrigeration contractors in the state. And we recommend them to all our clients for residential.

Who ever you use. Tell them before you install what is the recommended static pressure the unit they are biding is rated at to get you the optimum operation. Then ask them do they test this and will you guarantee this. But you need to know they can have good readings on a unloaded pse or x13 motor. So they need to understand. Also make sure they charge by sub cooling not just pressure. If they don't understand sub cooling or super heat. Stay away from them.

if unit is in attic good rule of thumb for return duct size. 3 ton two 16. 4 ton two 18. And 5 ton. Two 20.

Lots of good info on net. If you think your getting screwd just look it up.

Here is a chart for a standard pse gas furnace. You can see at the top what static it is. Max static and what cfm it will give you at a speed and static.

I get a chuckle that every single post I've ever seen you make includes the word "static."
It's very important for proper system operation, but there are many other factors as well.

Yes there is but this is the biggest problem I see in our area. Looked at a 4 ton yesterday. Walked up to compressor. It was flooded walked in house. Had a 14 inch and a 8 inch for the return.

If your going to do a manual j to size the equipment. and manual d you have to know what the static design is for to size the duct work.

Just like sizing filters. Most in this area have no ideal about the velocity that should be used when sizing filters. It's like using 1 inch pleated filters. I know you seen me preach on this. .23 drop at 300 fpm and .42 at 500 fpm. Merv 8 Add that into your manual d. A single pleated filter with a .3 drop on coil all ready puts you at max static on most units. And you haven't even installed the unit yet.

The op said he wants a professional. If you can't answers this type questions then they are not professionals.

And static design operation of a unit is one of the most important parts. If you don't know this. Then how do you size your duct work.
Static is just like a persons blood pressure. If it's to high you have a heart attack and system dies.
I got that statement of the Internet.
