    Me And My Bright Ideas

So, my daughter and a girlfriend are both big fans of a podcast called "Welcome To Night Vale", I've listened to a few, it's kinda like a cross between Prairie Home Companion, The X-Files, and Art Bell. Anyhow, the cast is on a tour and we caught them at home in San Antonio and then an extension to the tour would be coming to Austin in November. So being the good father I am got tickets for the three of us for the show in November at the Paramount. I thought it would be cool for us to drive up that day, check into a hotel and leave the next day.

Did I mention it's in November? On the 7th? Which I now realize is a UT home game.

    But wait, there's more.

When I looked at the venue I noticed that there's a couple of hotels right close by that we could walk to the theater from. You know, the Omni, Driskoll, Austin.....

Yea, those. Downtown Austin, on a UT home game night.

So for the Austin TBHers, what about something that's not a farking mortgage payment per night and use a taxi or Uber/Lyft to and from the theater? Another insane idea?

Try finding something in Round Rock. Only about 20/30 minute drive depending on traffic and the rooms are quite a bit cheaper.

Do you think I'd be able to find a place to park close to the theater? I haven't been to downtown Austin in 30 years.

you most likely will not find a parking spot close enough. you could stay in a hotel 15-20 minutes away from austin then just drive as close as you can and park (legally) then just uber to the paramount. i can't remember if uber raises their prices during home games, but is it by far the best way to get around (conveniently) in downtown austin. it is going to be impossible to find a parking spot down there considering the event you're going to and that it's a home game, but it's always worth a shot if you're up to it. there are some hotels near campus that are relatively cheap but you wouldn't want to deal with that traffic.

Sell the tickets and go hunting. This is only applicable if they are unaware that tickets were purchased in the first place.

My kids listen to that too. I've tried it...I don't get it.

Find you a place outside of town and uber into town. I went down there to help a buddy move out and there was a game and we did the same thing, he lived in manchaca. UberX is what we used and it was actually pretty fun meeting all these different people and the fares weren't that bad.
