    Lab scratching continuously

Help guys...My two year old Lab female is scratching herself crazy. We got her some kind of shampoo from one vet to bathe her with. Canny said it may be a food allergy- that chicken seems to be the biggest culprit in allergies in dogs so we have changed her diet. She still continuously scratches. We are taking her to a second vet this morning so see what they come up with. Anybody got any ideas that can bring some relief to my girl?

Coat her in olive oil? Our puppy was rescued with sarcoptic mange. Until we killed those little buggers my wife would coat him in oil. Nothing worse than hearing a dog scream out in pain and all you can do is watch.

Allergies with yours I'm not sure about. The oil worked for us. If anything it will hydrate her skin.

Colored mulch is the devil. If you have recently mulched you need to remove it......

We had the same problem with one of our dogs. Poor little feller was miserable. We switched food to a high dollar brand that does not have any wheat product and he no longer scratches.

Anxiety could be another problem. My brother's lab had been scratching like crazy and he couldn't figure out why. Took him to the vet got him some pills and it stopped. Might be something else to look at... Another thing could be the grain in the food. Change the food to a no grain and either salmon or duck. This could help as well.

only things come to mind,is allergies, dry skin and fleas..we have flea issues here.so i spray the yard each spring, with a insecticide in which its pet safe..and it deffently takes care of the outside fleas.plus i take things 1 step further.by getting one of thos flea chewables from the vet each month.that deffiently cuts down on scratching.and every once in a while,i'll use flea shampoo instead of her regular shampoo, when it comes to her baths..

Flea or skin alergies more than likely. Our lab had both and it was hell on him till we got if figured out.

Is coconut oil good for dogs? New research says there are two big problems with coconut oil. If your dog has health issues or skin conditions read on ...

She doesn't have fleas so I can eliminate that. We had been giving her two of the children's Benadryl each night before we go to bed and that seems to help her get thru the night, and us too (nothing like trying to sleep with an 85 lb. Lab laying in the bed with you scratching...). We switched her food last week to the 4Health Salmon and that may have helped some. Texas Tracker, I went to the website and the coconut oil thing sounds good but it doesn't give any instructions on how much or how to administer. We'll see what the second vet has to say today. Thanks for all the feedback.

Our Lab did the same thing, we switcher his food to Victors (the green bag) it worked.

Coconut oil has become a popular treatment for skin problems. It's antibacterial, anti-fungal, and easy to purchase. While more research is needed to determine how effective (if at all) it is, you can safely give it to your dog. Some...

Unfortunately I think you're going to have to switch the food again. It's not necessarily the Chicken, it's the grain/wheat that gives them bad allergies. We fought this for two years with my Lab. To the point she lost a lot of the hair on her sides. All the other stuff will work temporarily, the topical things. But, it's a problem inside the dog. So, with topical remedies you're basically applying a temporary band aid to the problem. Grain free food is expensive, but very much worth it for the well being of your family and your pup.
