100 miles doesn't sound toooo far out of line to me. A lot of times the first symptom of an alternator spitting the bit, is the transmision not shifting right....as odd as that sounds.

I'd do the belt, tensioner and idler first. It's too much a coincidence for me that 3 belt driven systems tried to quit at once. Also check that PS fluid level.

In high school I had a Honda... Don't judge me. I had the alternator go out in Plano and I charged it and made it all the way to Arlington before it shut off. It was much more efficient then my truck.

Dale, My transmission has been shifting weird for a while. I wonder if it has been going for a while.

Shift solenoids have to have minimum of 12V to operate.

I replaced the tensioner, idler pulley, and the belt. I charged the battery for about 20 hours. It wouldn't start. I jumped it and it kept saying the battery wouldn't charge. When I removed the jumper cables, it died. I took the battery up to orilley and they said the battery was bad. It was 45% charged on their meter. I bought a new battery and started the truck and it still says battery won't charge.

So is it the alternator? Is it a cable or fuse? The cables look good and tight.

Go get your alternator tested. Drive up to O'Reilly.

I am going to drive to Orilley after work today. I assume a new battery will start a couple of times and get me back and forth.

What are the chances that my battery and alternator are both bad?

My codes in the glove box say my truck has a 105 amp generator not alternator.

I checked the power steering fluid and it was full.

While messing around, I saw some fluid on the inside of the drivers wheel well. I looked further and it looks like I had a shock blow out. It is from the middle of the shockdown to where it connects on the bottom and then on the inside of the wheel well. I wonder if somehow it got there from one of these issues. Maybe just the shock went out. It is less than a year old Monroe shock.

did you charge/battery light come on? and heat will kill a battery...could just be one of those pile on things.

If the battery was fairly old, a long trip in extreme heat, and completely draining it, could very well kill a battery. Extreme heat or cold will wreck a weak battery or tire every time.

                  Alternators are cheap.....go get one.

If I get an alternator and it fixes the battery problem, then I still have other problems with the brakes and the over heating.

The power steering reservoir looked wet on the outside. It looked like someone had spilled some fluid on it. I am wondering if the brake problem caused a build up of pressure or caused it to boil over. It was full of fluid.

You can sit there and spend a ton of money replacing parts and not fix anything. My advice is to take it to a mechanic and have it looked at and fixed. You will probably come out ahead in the long run.

Do you know if you still have the brake and overheating issues yet?

I don't know what I still have. I haven't been able to drive it yet. I am saving the battery to go get the alternator fixed tonight and them possibly take it somewhere for diagnostic.

The brake problem was on and off, the over heating was only once.

If my alternator is bad should I replace it with the 105 amp alternator or something else.

The rpo code for mine is K68. This is a 105 amp generator. I just saw something online that said if the truck has a tow package it should have a 130 amp alternator.

I see people do this all the time. Atleast get it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing first.

I had the alternator checked last night. He said the voltage and amps were low. I think it was something like 11.99 V and 30 amps.
