I'm trying to start collecting tools and I figure today's a better time than ever. I'd like to begin with tools I should carry in my truck to be ready for what may be thrown my way on the road and then go from there. I'd like to stay with craftsman but up to suggestions on other tools. Any suggestions?

Skip the crafstman ratchets, they're junk. Basic set of 6 point 3/8 drive sockets, 3/8 drive ratchet (I like Snap-On), 3 and 6 inch extension, set of Gear Wrenches, phillips and straight blade screw drivers, vice grips, medium pry bar, dikes, needle noose pliers, duck tape, tire repair kit and inflator. That should get you out of most problems.

My basic kit includes jumper cables, tow strap, leather gloves in the door, assorted crecent wrench set, assorted ratchet set 3/8, assorted screw driver set (all of these came with either a bag or holding box), set of 3 1250 lbs ratchet straps and a four way. Also a must have is allergy medicine, tylenol, aleve, head lamp, flashlight, lighter, and a bar of travel soap that stays in my glove box. Have used it several times as well after fishing etc to keep from getting that crap all over the steering wheel.
The one I have used the most though is the stanley fatmax can find it at sams club, charge it up at the house and then leave it in the truck, can be used to charge anything, run spot lights, basically a battery with a handle, plus a compressor kinda slow but good enough to get to the tire shop with out putting on the spare, and have used it to jump my f-150 a few times when battery was giving out on me.
Eventually going to just start keeping a little 160 piece tool kit as well just to have with me. And since I am in Colorado now I am also going to be adding an axe and a hatchet to the list.Last edited by westtexducks; 07-19-2015, 12:31 AM.
