If your using charts then use Easton bow hunting arrow chart. This chart has adjustments for ibo. It goes to 150 gun tip or adjustments for going heivier. Also if your broadhead is longer then a field tip. You may want to go one mark to the right.
That chart with 125 tip put you in j. That's 340 spine

I got some weights. Got my bow restrung and went out and did some shootin. I put 2, 20 grain weights in a 400 spined velocity and a 340 Hunter XT that I had. I shot several groups and did not have a noticeable difference in penetration.
It did look as though the non weighted arrows penetrated a little more. I did notice a drop in impact point. This was a brand new target. I will shoot some more today. I'll experiment and see what combo seems to be a better set up for me.

You cannot use targets as a penetrate test. Depending on what type of target will give you different results. Lots of targets are design to stop by friction. This means a lighter faster arrow will penetrate deeper then a heavy slower arrow. But I promise you that will not be the case on an animal if bone is it.
Also the 400 spine with the extra 20 gn is weak. You still can tune this. And get it shooting. Where the problem come in is when it hits an animal. The arrow will flex more. It will whip. This is what hinders penetration.Last edited by enewman; 07-22-2015, 05:29 AM.
