Walking Around Downtown Houston

Wife and I are going to a concert at the Toyota Center. There is a bar a couple blocks away I would like to go to and kill time before. Is it a safe area to walk around about 5 o'clock? Can't carry in the bar or at the concert so that's out. Honest opinion appreciated we don't get down there much.

That's rush hour in downtown. I would say 5pm is safer than 12am, but it's downtown so you never know.

THe China Garden restaurant right outside the Toyota Center is great food. Get the General Tso's chicken. Mmmmm.

Do you know the ushers in the Lexus lounge? Good friend of mine works most events there........really a nice area to hangout!!!

That is a nice hangout! I know some of the ushers but not a lot by name. My partner and I work the floor on a lot concerts and generally hang out just outside of the Lexus.

Yeah, I'll admit we don't get out much especially to downtown. Going to Imagine Dragons and wanted to have a couple different Scotches at Reserve 101 first to kill some time. I assumed it was fine but thought I would ask here to make sure. Thanks for all the input. Will keep China Garden as a backup, planning on Taste of Texas first for now.
