    Dirt!

Got a question, and this is a solid place to get an answer. I have googled and not getting the most direct answers.

The foundation on my workshop is starting to be more exposed then it should, and there are a few places on the house that are eventually need some dirt pushed up against it.

What kind of dirt should I push up against the foundation? Sand? Clay? Mix? Somthing else?

    Thanks green screen!

How exposed? Anything should he fine, it's main goal is to keep moisture on it.

Maybe 2-3 inches exposed along a 8 foot stretch.

Brett above will fix you up.

But how far it is exposed below the weep holes or siding.

It is washing out? Is there a bed there or is it grass?

Post several pic's. That way it will show the exact problem.

It has always been my understanding that you want a couple of inches of flu ration exposed above grade. I know on both of the houses I have bought the home inspector told me I needed to expose the foundation some on the high side of the houses...two different inspectors.

If you have a post tension foundation you want 8" exposed slab.
You can expose more as long as the bottom 6" of beam is covered (beams are usually 24-34" deep)

Might want to put gutters on the workshop too if practical.

okay, following along. It is on grass, and I do have a gutter system. The slab is 20x36. I am not currently home, but I am going to dig through my phone and see if I have any pictures and get them posted once I get a chance.

My plan is to have some dirt delivered or pick some up on my trailer and take it to the house and put dirt where is needed. I don’t think there is any problem, just some maintenance I need to do. So I will look into granite. What kind of dirt do they typically put around new construction?

Gutters make a big difference. We get calls ALL the time from people wanting us to come in and "cover up" their slab where it's washed away

We used plain ole black fill dirt for it.

Typically it is finished with whatever is cheap, handy and will grow landscaping. Much of the time it is what was scraped off the site just prior to construction beginning.
