I dont play scratch offs but I was actually talking to a friend about this yesterday...If I play Mega Millions and the Powerball both twice a week and only buy one ticket of each time that would be $6 a week/$312 a year and I believe I could even write off my "Gambling" losses at tax time.

Anyone know that being true for sure?

I don't understand how someone could do that. Give me a million right now and I would be set for a lifetime.

          I buy a $2 ticket once a month. I always lose.

I get the urge to buy one on occasion, but rarely win.

No you can't write off gambling losses, but you can claim the winnings! I know, lucky you.

My wife worked at a lottery while going to school. One fella had won 50k on a scratcher. He was set to get a check for just over 32k once all the taxes were taken. The check came out to ZERO as he owed the state back pay for child support he never paid. He was a happy camper.

.......I'm thinking maybe your guys didn't want anyone else or yourself to know how much they won lmao. The odds for scratch offs are roughly 1:4. So with 100 tickets, you should have had about 25 winning tickets (in various amounts including break-even prizes). Or maybe I am reading your post wrong....

My daughters fiance won $1M about a year or so ago on a $20 scratchoff. Me and the wife are about even. Win some, lose some. We don't play all the time though, just once in a while.

My wife grew up with a guy who won one of the weekly grand deals. Still getting his checks, and that was about 12-13 years ago.

I was bullied into buying by one of my ex students and purchased a $1.00 ticket and won $1.00

I feel like I've come full circle and don't plan on purchasing another!

Your not going to have 25 winners for every 100 tickets bought.
                                Doesn't work that way.
