Sounds like you both have issues.

Here is where the problem is- after I grab the gun her response is "Well, there's no bullet and it's not even "racked" (whatever the 43ll that means).
Everyone jumping on the female in question needs to read....she handed the OP a pistol with the slide locked back cupped in her hand( I don't read that as hand on the trigger)....the OP is the one who doesn't own a gun and may need some firearm training....

Ok so I was over at a female friend's apartment and I saw an empty magazine to a small handgun and inquired about said handgun. Note I said -inquired- I didn't give a d4mn to see it. Never owned a gun maybe I will maybe I won't but sitting and gee gawwing them is unnecessary. She pulls it out of her kitchen drawer and I see that the breech is open and her hands are actually cupping it, but when she hands it to me she is holding the barrel pointed directly at my sternum.

Here is where the problem is- after I grab the gun her response is "Well, there's no bullet and it's not even "racked" (whatever the 43ll that means). I told her that every gun is loaded, and when it's not pointed at a target it needs pointed down, cleared, and safed.
So here's what I need to know: I feel like I under-reacted. I let that barrel point right at me, and I didn't ditch her as a friend right then and there because she's an amazing person with a good reason to need to feel safe as her husband was machete'd 80 times by his mistress's ex husband. Traumatized. What is a good way to not only confront her about my hurt feelings from her blase attitude, but to convince an over confident bloviator that their @$$ needs checked and educated or they need to be completely disarmed? Also, assuming I'm staring directly at a barrel again how do I turn my calm switch off?

It was a crap gun btw. Some sheisty POS .380
take her and the gun outside somewhere safe, with a water melon ,cantalope, tomato or something of the sort, then shoot the "vegitarget" when the splatter has all settled look at her calmly and say " that could have been my chest or head"! if you dont want me around say so and i will leave, if you want me to hang around, learn how to use the gun and to handle it safely, or get rid of it....

This is what I gathered as well. Seems like someone other than the woman should be taking a firearms class here.

I was at a female "friend's" apartment once. The only difference is that she was telling me to stop pointing...you know what...never mind.

                    Prayers up

She sounds like a good time.

Get outta the friendzone and make a move.

20 years from now it will be a good story to tell.

Christmas before last, my FIL bought my MIL a .380 w/ a laser sight on it for Christmas. When the whole family (probably 30-35 people) was over there for Christmas dinner I was standing there speaking to my FIL when my MIL decided to get my attention so she could show me her new .380 that she was very excited about. She did so by dancing the laser across my face, hitting me in the eyes from about 5 yards away. I, having been raised around guns, been in the Marine Corps, and now in LE, looked over to see a gun pointed at my head. I said "What are you doing? Put that down!" With her finger on the trigger, her response was "Oh relax, it's not loaded anyways." I stepped toward her and asked her for it as I reached out to take it. She gladly handed it to me so that she could show it off. 1st thing I did was dump the LOADED magazine from the magazine well, and then I ejected a LIVE ROUND from the chamber. To make matters worse, the ammo that was in it was Speer Gold Dot ammo, which is excellent hollow point ammo and would have most definitely turned my head into a hollow log. My neice, who is the widow of my nephew who was killed in combat in Afghanistan was standing next to my MIL the whole time telling her to stop doing that. Anyway, when I unloaded it, my MIL seemed quite surprised that a round came out of the chamber. I told her it was a nice piece and that she had no business with that thing until she and I spent some time together on the range and fixed her awful gun safety. She still didn't get it, kind of blowing it off and saying "Oh, it's not that big of a deal." When I explained to her that it might make a bad Christmas memory for the family if the matriarch of the family were sitting in prison and I was laying in a box 6 feet under the ground, and everybody traumatized because they watched my head get splattered all in the kitchen on Christmas eve, it finally started to get her attention. We still haven't been to the range.

Sorry for getting so long winded and hijacking your thread....there are just some folks that have no business with a firearm. They too foolish to realize they need training and to proud to admit This is mom, I left my phone at home so if you need me please call Brad's phone. they don't know the 1st darn thing about how to handle a firearm.

Wow!!! I would say you handled that situation perfectly!

That would have had my blood boiling! I absolutely hate when people utter "it's not loaded"
