    RV Refrig questions

I am getting my trailer ready to travel and can not get the refrig to cool on gas or elect. Is there any sort of reset?

If you light the burners on the stove for awhile, maybe you could get the gas to light once you cleared out the air. Good luck, it's worth a try.

Unplug from shore power and see if your 12 volt stuff still works.. Do you have a battery disconnect switch...?

It might be the control board on the back of frig you can take the board to a rv shop to have checked

If your light are working then you have 12V to the unit. Do you have a Norcold or Dometic? Also if it has been on for awhile, go to the back side and check to see the burner stack is warm.

Domestic. Went to the back. Nothing was warm. Unplugged the 120 and the gas burner came on immediately.

Well, if it switched to LP when you unplugged it, you board is working, and it is working on LP.

More than likely you have lost 120V to the fridge.

                      1. Check GFI Plug in bathroom, make sure it hasn't tripped
                      2. Check Breaker in breaker box
                      3. If those are good, you have 2 fuse in the back on the black board. You will have to remove cover. 1 is a 12V fuse & the other 120V fuse, check and see if they are good.

If you have power to the board. Either bad board or bad heating element

Bad feeling right there. I think my fridge is dead. It works in the refrigerator fine but the freezer no longer freezes anything..........actually room temp. Gonna cost to fix or replace that little sucker.

IF your burner lights, and the fridge cools and the freezer does not,, thats really strange because the ammonia adsorption unit cools from the top down as thats the first place that refrigerant reaches in the system. Since the burner lights, the board most likely is fine. Try to leave it on gas for 24 hours and see if it cools down (freezer and fridge) on gas. If it does the heater element is out. The heating element , which is about 25-30 bucks and can be replaced with moderate skill. Its above the burner inside the 3" galvanized tube surrounding the heater tube and just slides into a bracket from the bottom, which is mounted to the heater or boiling tube. Make sure your camper is level both front and rear and side to side. My Fridge is 21 years old and if its not level, forget it , it wont cool at all. If it will not cool on gas, beat hard , I mean hard, on the back of the fridge as there might be a flake of rust blocking a passage. I have had to do this many time in the past 11 years I've owned my camper. Also, look for any white powder residue or any strong odors which might indicate a leak, in which case you have two options, 1- buy a new 1200 fridge or 2-search the internet for the Amish refrigeration company for a replacement cooling unit for 450.00. It takes a good handy man with above average skill to install and it takes about 8 hours for the swap out. That's the route I am going to take when mine finally craps out.

A lot of time that is a sign of blocked or leaky cooling unit. If you don't smell ammonia or see any (yellow pollen looking stuff around burner), you can try to remove fridge and let it sit upside down for 24-48 hours. The turn it back over and let it sit for 24 hours. The test it out!!!

Also if you fridge is located in a slide out, check to see if you hear any fans running. They mount fans behind unit to help remove heat from cabinet. Please PM or call 281-734-3111 if you have any question or you decide to have it repair or change, this is what I do for a living. I'm a mobile service and work in your area
