bought a couple of the Surface Pro 3 the other day also the keyboard. took a little getting used to windows 8. I do like them but if our software was Mac compatible we would have bought Ipads and saved money. -
Having spent quite a bit of time using one, my next personal computer will be a surface pro 3. Full desktop power, in a tablet. Only thing I don't like about them is the kickstand... very awkward if you're not at a table...Comment

If I was buying one right now for someone in college, it would be a surface pro 3. Hopefully you can get it with windows 10 installed.
I still have the Surface Pro 1 and still use it. I have Visual Studio and Office running on it and can run them in parallel.
Its also great for viewing trailcam pics. I use microsd cards with SD adapters in the trail and and put the microsd card in the surface.Comment

I would find out from the school what they recommend. I prefer Microsoft but The University said Apple was the way to go. Got mine MacBooks and never looked back. Your Daughter's situation may be different.Comment

Wife has/had one she loved it and I even got to use it a couple times till the dog decided to take it to the back yard.Comment
