This. Mine was in the crate covered on top for shade but open on the sides for the breeze. Had a water bowl in with her and would put cold water in it every time I stopped. She's an outside dog so she is used to the heat.

I have a Mud River insulated Kennel cover like this https://mudriverdogproducts.com/prod...-kennel-cover/

I also have a Mud River back seat cover like this

95% of the time my dog is in the kennel, both winter and summer up here in Wyoming. Only in extreme heat or extreme cold do I let her ride in the back seat on the seat cover. When I do let her ride inside the cab (I driver a Tundra Double Cab), I fold the bottom seat up, place a dog bed on the floor and then the seat cover comes down and protects the back seat and the floor. What it does not protect is the back of the front seats and the hair floating all over the cab.
I got tired of cleaning all the hair up all the time inside the cab so she is now in the bed most of the time. I also use an ATV ratchet strap to secure the kennel to the bed of the truck using the tie downs in the front of the bed.
I found as long as you have enough ventilation during the summer (kennel cover has vents you can open), and enough insulation during the winter without cold air blowing through the kennel, your dog will be fine in the kennel.

I have a camper cover on my truck with a sliding front glass. I also have a sliding glass in my truck and I open these and put a small 120 volt fan in the opening and secure it with two little bungee cords. The fan plugs into the back side of my console. I also crack the two side windows on the camper which creates a draft and helps to pull the cool air from the cab into the camper. My dogs make it just fine even on long trips in the summer like this.
My truck and camper is white and this helps some too.
