    Missing Home

Those that know me know I'm usually one that can handle being away and working no matter what is goin on at home but tonight I had enough.

With the oilfield "slowdown" I've probably averaged around 25 days a month away from home and at the rig and the last 6 months has been too much. Tonight I called my boss and told him I'm burned out and need to get home. I have a 18 month old little girl and my wife is due to have my little boy in Sept.

Luckily for me others are scratching at the door so he said no problem I can have someone there tomorrow. I told him 3-4 days but it may turn into a week or two if it doesn't feel like enough time home.

Just had to share because I'm happy to be headed to see my girls tomorrow/today

I know what its like in the oilfield and getting burned out. I chased rigs around west Texas for 4 years with hardly anytime off and finally made the decision to work overseas on a 28 day rotation. Hope everything works out.

Yep, seems since the slow down they know they got us where they want us. They know we cant say no or else... I spend more days away from home than at home. My normal work schedule used to be 28/28.

Now it's more like 42/14 in between screwed up crew changes 2000 mile rig moves, and freaking training class after training class home is just a pipe dream. 8 days from crew change now but seems like we'll be underway to shipyard and going to get jacked again. Oh well I would have only been home for two days before heading to Houston for another course.

I know how you are feeling. My wife is pregnant with our first and I have been home 4 days out of the last 45. I just try to keep the mind set that I am blessed to still be working right now with the slow down and all.

          Enjoy the time at home!

Not for me.... when i first started in the hotels and clubs, I worked 60-70 hour weeks. Gave that prestige up a long time ago.... aint worth it!!

Well until I hit the powerball I'm gonna have to work to retire as early as my wife and I plan.

I hear ya bud when I got laid off June 1 I spent about 3 weeks just cooling my heels. I have job offers to go back but I don't think in going to. I realized I have gone 3/4 of my little boys short life and it's just not in me anymore so I'm not even looking anymore. 13 years was a good run but I hung up my hardhat on a nail in the garage, unpacked my road bag, and put it in the closet a few days ago. First time it hasent been in my backseat or on the laundry room floor in 13 years was a tough pill to swallow.
