OK, I was 8-9 years old, had gone hunting (primarily goose & duck) with my dad on several occasions. This time I had my mother's single shot 20 gauge. My dad had told me that if ducks flew over I was to use the shells in my left pocket, and if it was geese, I was to use the ones in the right (or was it the other way around?). Anyway, a flock of geese flew over real low, and ?I just watched them with that deer in the headlights look on my face. My dad asked me why I didn't shoot and all I could say was, "I didn't remember which shells were in the shotgun."

I was 14 years old and my ag teacher asked if i would be interested in a youth hunt put on by the local police and game warden, i figured not much chance for me to go any other way so why not. I went out on the first day with the local constable he brought his 243 rifle and we were in a box blind about 100 yds from i suppose a hand corn sight. I can't remember how long we sat but not more than an hour a 10 point buck walked out with a couple does so the first deer i shot in my life was a 10 point.I shot him with a dead on heart shot and he dropped where he stood. An hour later two more does walked out and i tried to shoot and the gun misfired i reloaded and shot the big one. the little one stood there so I reloaded and shot her too. All in all It has to this day been the best hunt of my life I limited out the first day and i just hung around the camp fire with the old guys for the next two days.I was the only one who shot so many deer so i gave some of my meat to the other kids to take home. I'll never forget that weekend and i'll always be appreciative of the palo pinto county law enforcement for allowing me to go to it. still have the rack from that deer hanging

at 10yrs of age my uncle to me on my first dove hunt. i was using his single shot 12 gauge and must have shot at over 50 birds and never came close,,,late in the day i was kneeling down beside him drinking a R.C cola when a low flying bird came very close , my uncle yelled for me to shoot, i fired the gun while i was off balance and it knocked me down, right on my butt in a patch of stickers...a painful 2hr ride home and mom spent about a hour picking stickers thorns off my butt cheeks.. painful at the time but funny as heck now that i think about it.

Same for me. I started sitting with my Grandpa when I was 3 but I don't remember my first hunt to tell much of a story. I remember a bunch of hunts when I was young but can't recall my first.

I'm really enjoying reading everyone's first!

Cold foggy morning in 1962 in the Navidad river bottoms with my Dad. We sat on the ground and every stump and bush looked like a deer. It was a dry run but Ill never forget my first hunt.

One of the guys in the local Archery club took me & another friend to a farm he had permission to hunt. I made my stand on the edge of a corn field over looking an alphalpha field & they were like 150 yds past me in some timber over looking the same field. I looked out of the standing corn to my left & 15 tds away I see this Does head sticking out of the corn "looking" at me. She jumps into the field & I take a criunning shot & the arrow goes over her back. I had 3 more shots that day in the timber & 2 different Bucks at around 20 yds. 4 misses for the day & actually my season. I was 14, it was 1957 & ILLINOIS FIRST EVER DEER SEASON. I had 1 shot in 1958, 2nd year Bowhunting & killed a yearling Doe. I have continued to Bowhunt Biggame with a Bow ever since. I have been blessed to do in Bowhuning/Archery that many will only dream of. I have Bowhunted Texas many times for Hogs & a few times Exotic Deer & a total of 14 States for various Biggame & almost all public land, DIY. Pictured is that 1958 Deer & 22 years later, within 100 yds. of that kill was my 1st Buck that would make P&Y (barely).. 2015 starts 59 years of bowhunting.
