    Question about drawn hunts?

Last year was the first time I applied for hunts, and I didn't add any applicants. I wanted to add my brother in law and brother this year. How does that work? If I'm drawn do we all hunt on one permit? Does this decrease your chance of being drawn? Thanks for any advice you may have.

Good question. I've only applied solo.

When your filling in what you want to hunt and area, etc. There is a button to add applicants. You need DOB, Last name, and Social or DL number.

Yes, everybody you apply with gets to hunt if you get drawn. They will take the average number of loyalty points of every person on your application and apply that average number to everyone. So if you have a lot of points and you add a new guy that has none, you'll basically be giving up half of your preference points. But since you just have 1 so far, that won't be a big deal for you.

Each person in the group gets their own permit and area to hunt.
You do not have to split anything.

They take this into account when selecting

Depends on the circumstances/description of the hunt! Yes everybody on the application will hunt. Some hunts have assigned blinds so each person will be assigned to a designated blind. Some hunts are by compartment. Usually the entire group of 1 to 4 people on the application will have an compartment assigned to them they can hunt how they want!

The orientation before the hunt starts will explain all this and that's where you find out where you are hunting.

In the catalog, in the description of each hunt it has a header that says Method: by compartment etc etc

I was told by TP&W that if I added someone with less points than I have I would automatically drop to their point level? If I have 10 points and add someone to my card with 0 points the entire card would go to 0. Maybe he didn't know what he was talking about?

As others have already stated, if drawn, everyone on the card gets their own permit.
It can decrease your chance of being drawn in certain situations though.
If there are 40 permits available for a particular hunt, and 39 have already been drawn, you won't get drawn if you have more than 1 person on your card.
But the hunts are a lot more fun with others and you don't have to foot all the fuel and lodging bills by yourself.

Whoever you talked to was wrong.
                    They average the groups points.
If you have 10 and your buddy has 0, your group has 5.

I'm not so sure this is true. I know for a fact on their standby hunts if they draw a card with 4 names on it and there is less than 4 spots open, i.e. 2, they will hunt everybody on the card - all 4. I'm thinking it's the same for the original draw - might not be though hmmmmmm

                        Standby is different.

There are only so many permits available for the original draw.
If the book says 40, then they only award 40.
If 39 are already awarded, and your group of 4 gets drawn, you get skipped over and they redraw until the computer picks a card with 3 or less.
They're not going to award 43 permits.

But they are going to award 42 permits now that just doesn't make any sense

                            I apologize.
In my original response I used 37 as my number.
I changed it to 39 before I posted and didn't catch that.
It should read "1" instead of "3 or less".

                            Sorry for the confusion.

Where do you see your preference points?
