    EZ tag on trailer??

Long story short I had a credit card fraud and had to get a new card. Failed to update the EZ tag and got a violation (Harris County) I got it resolved. Fast forward a month and I get another on Hwy 99 (fortbend county toll rd).

Called Ft. Bend and they claimed to have my trailer tag in violation and not the truck that was towing it. Tell me call Harris County. I end up contacting both back and forth to get the correct LP as a primary and call Ft. Bend back for a 3rd time

This time the guy tells me I need an EZ tag on the trailer?? I try to explain its a boat and ask where I should mount said tag. He tells me on the license plate but cant tell me if saltwater will screw it up or not......

Ive seen 100s of trailers of all shapes and sizes on the toll roads and have never seen one with an EZ tag.

Whos got an EZ tag on their trailer and where has customer service gone???

Should not not need it they just charge you extra per axle from what I was told . Just like it didn't need insurance for plate registration on my trailer it's just an extension of your vehicle .

Do I need to add my trailer to my EZ TAG Account?
As an EZ TAG Account holder, you are required to notify HCTRA of any changes to your account and vehicle information. Towing a trailer is considered a change to a vehicle and your account should be updated with this information. Multi-axle vehicles are charged a higher toll rate.

If you are towing the trailer temporarily, you can add the trailer to your account with EZ Plate. Learn more about how EZ Plate works here.

Note: Failing to update your account and vehicle information may result in toll violations. Please check with other area tolling agencies about their policies regarding trailers. See map for details.

I have one for my boat trailer, don't have to put it on boat. License plate is linked to my acct, still had to get a separate tag for some dumb reason

                      Just what I said

What I was told on the phone vs. whats on the website and side of the road contradict each other.

Read the OP. This wasn't an issue before the fraud and new card. Both trailer and truck are on same account. Traveling the beltway and 99 from I-10 to 290 is NOT an issue. Only in Ft. Bend.

As mentioned why is the a toll fee per axle (ie: trailer) if I have to add another tag? Charging per axle in reality should negate the need for a tag on the trailer

HCTRA stopped making sense years ago! They are a monopoly so play their stupid games or don't.

BUT it appears that every new road in Tx will be a toll road now days so I guess we are stuck.....

I emailed Them This is the response I got.

                            Stan,

FBCTRA does not recommend putting a tag on the trailer. Our system will use the toll tag in the cab of the vehicle and then utilize proper tools to count the number of axles driving thru the plaza. If you are pulling a single axle trailer, we would read it as a 3-axle vehicle. Please let me know if you need further information. Thank you.

I went through this with them when they started charging tolls on 99 in Fort Bend county. We have 60 trucks and 80 trailers. The tags were on our trailers and they told me we had to put them on our trucks. SMH!

It is a screwed up mess with them.
