Giggin' with Capt. Dave (surrender at sunrise)

About a month ago I planned a gigging trip to celebrate my wife's 29th birthday again, LOL. Now, I know it sounds more like a gift for me but she is always wanting to try new outdoor adventures so this trip fit the bill. We were in the company of our good friends Poco and Mrs. Poco(Ray and Mel) on this trip. Before I get started on the gigging part of the trip I have to comment on Capt Dave's patience...we were late by at least about an hour(wife's summer classes ran late) but Dave called not to make sure we were still coming, but to offer direction In case we had gotten lost trying to find the boat ramp. It didn't take long once we left the ramp to find the first fish but the water was pretty stirred up due to a hard falling tide. After 5 minutes and one fish we make a move, maybe a 5 minute boat ride and immediately find clean water teaming with bait. The wife and I were first up and not long after the lights hit the water the flounder start hitting the deck. Fish after fish we gig our limits very quickly, Ray and Mel jump up and get in on the action too. In a drainage, with 5 flounder sitting in the lights and a box fairly full of fish Dave figured we should start counting the fish in the cooler. It's a good thing we did. We hit the limit right on the head before stabbing any more flatties. Those 5 fish in front of us got a pass for the night. With the counting done and a few adult beverages in celebration we had our limits of solid summertime fish in less than an hour and a half. It would have been much sooner but....one more testament to Capt. Dave's patience, we missed quite a few fish and had some good ones come off trying to get them over the rail. Every aspect of this trip was awesome, Capt Dave was great and my wife says she wouldn't want to gig with anyone else. She was very impressed with his uncanny ability to find fish, his friendliness, and his personality. I highly recommend Dave, he has his craft mastered and will work hard to get you on fish(if you read this, thanks Dave). I also want to thank Ray and Mel for great company on this trip and always. Folks, you won't find a better flounder guy down here on the coast. If anyone books a trip please be sure to tell Capt. Dave yall are tbhrs as he is a site sponsor. Well I called Dave 3 weeks ago inquiring about a June 27th trip. He said he was pretty full but could get us on the late trip . I said that would be great since we were going to be offshore most of the day any way . I asked him if he wanted me to send him a deposit and he said no just call me Saturday night at around 10 - 11 pm and he'd have a better idea on when to meet him . He said he had everything he needed . Well when I got back on shore Saturday and my phone had signal again I seen a text from asking if we were still going tonight? So I called him and then tells me he tried to get a hold of me and since I didn't answer him during the day he booked someone else. Well duh there isn't cell service 40 miles out at sea. Besides that he was the one that told me to call him at 10 or 11 pm that night . I did what the man told me to do . I told him most of us here on Tbh are stand up folks and I'm surprised he pulled that crap on our group I had arranged to go out with . He told me he don't even get on here anymore .something about he had a bunch of tbhrs that stood him up . Well I simply said take your Dam shingle down then . That was it , never offered anything, no I'm sorry , no nothin , just hung up the phone. He cost me and Rob an extra nights lodging and days layover . That was our first and last experience with old Capt.Dave and surrender at sunrise .

Well dang RACK. Sounds as if there was a breakdown in communication there. I know there is always 2 sides to a story so I can't comment either way but I do know he treated us very well and has been very professional with us in the past. There are many, many satisfied customers and I can honestly say you are the first that I have heard to have had an unfavorable review. That being said, Poco has pics coming soon.

Weren't no breakdown of communication at all . I tried to give him a deposit 3 weeks in advance. I told him I had on offshore trip planned that day. He said to just call him Saturday night about 10 -11 and we were all good .
At the wall and I each booked an extra nights stay as we were going to be the late group going out. He texted me and I quote " u still going to be on for the late night gigging trip tonight " while we were at sea Saturday afternoon. I called him the minute I got the text when I regained signal back at shore. He told me he already booked another group for the late trip since he never heard back from me , I told the man again that we were offshore which I had already told him that three weeks prior as well when I tried ti give him a deposit. That's the truth as it happened, I'll put that against any side all sides two sides three don't matter that's exactly how it went down .

I didn't mean to rain on his good time and that's certainly not my intent so I apologize if that's how you took it mike . I'm happy to hear they all had a good trip and I'm sure Dave is a heck of a good guide , that's his job he should be. He also mentioned that Dave was a site sponsor , that's why I posted on our experience with him . Dave told me himself he don't even get on here anymore cuz he's had a lot of " us tbhrs burn him on standing him up ". I

"Site Sponsor" or not it cost us a lot of needless money when we "got stood up"
