    Flex seal???

As the water sealant on my plywood transom board? Anybody think my hair-brained Idea will work? Thinking it might be worth it to try that instead of $40 on actual water sealant.

They made a truck into a submarine with it. It has to work. Lol

How big is your transom board and why would sealing it cost $40? I've build some small transoms and a small can of poly sealant ran less than $10.

Note: I guess I don't understand your project. Can you describe what you are trying to do a little better?

No risk no reward! But keep a bailing bucket close.

            Flex seal???

All my water sealant searches came up with $40 cans. That's what I'm going off of! I'm replacing the transom plywood board in my jon boat. I'm thinking that instead of water sealant, why not use flex seal? In theory it will work, right? I'm still planning on using silicon on all the bolts I put through.

For $40 you could apply resin for sure and probably put mesh on it as well.

I have used the stuff, it does not work very well.

I would spend the money and do it right the first time, so you won't have to redo it.

Did it peel, or crack, or leak? I am thinking of using this stuff to fix some cracks in the camper.

I mean, the guy sprayed a screen door and then went fishing...

I store our gutting knives in a sealed wood case over at camp and it leaks whenever we have prolonged periods of rain. There were no biff gaps or cracks in the wood so I just sprayed the entire box, interior and exterior with Flex-seal thinking that would make it waterproof.

                    It still leaks.

It peels badly. Not right at first, but it does after a couple of weeks. I would not use flex seal again.

The last transom I fixed, we removed the wood, and replaced it with aluminum channel iron. Cost me about $300. Never having to do it again....Priceless.

According to the commercial you can flex seal a screen door to the bottom of your boat and fix a GIANT hole. If it is on tv it has to be legit right?? I say do it and let us know if it works.

Helmsman spar urethane is what I always used for treating wood on a boat (sailboat in my case.) Epoxy would be superior, especially for boats that are left in the water year round. But I've seen this stuff used for most folks who dry dock/store their boats. Just put on a few coats, several for your small board. 1qt treats a lot of surface area. Looks like $15 bucks. Don't spray it, brush it on.

If you do get even a small leak, you will have sealed THAT moisture INTO the transom so it can rot and leave you with a Flexseal envelope with rotten wood insides.
