Hunting thread- how close is too close between stands?

We've got pretty open country on the ranch. Hills are pretty thick and there are draws and creeks, some with live oaks.

We have a draw coming off a hill that has a line of live oaks coming down it. We call it the suicide stand because we hoisted a ladder stand up in this live oak, approx 18ft up at the seat height. It's a hand corn stand, the hunting was worse when we put a feeder there. So, literally hand corn and it's a great sit.

You have a thin brush line that travels several hundred yards of open ground before hitting a creek about 600-800ish yards away. There's another huge clump of live oaks. We are going to put a tripod in that clump and have another hand corn spot. We will see how it goes.

How does distance work on your place?

i have bow hunted as close as 150 yards to a buddy due to terrain. To me personally, all about terrain and trials

You can easily see the two giant live oaks in this pic.

1000-1300 yards is the general rule of thumb we use in Mexico. 18,000 acres 10-12 hunters.

The farther the better right? I would think 500-750 yards would be a good rule of thumb, but there are a lot of factors especially if you are talking about a feeder versus hand corn.

All depends where you are located and the terrain along with how big the place is

Most of the time our stands were roughly 500-800 yards apart in south Texas

            Hill country was similar 400-600ish

My main stand is about 200 yds from a fellas gun stand and feeders
I have hunted with another stand with in 60 yds and we both did good. I dont really think it matters. One stand has deer coming in from one direction the other has the opposite

Ya these are hand corn only and elevated stands. We are going to give it a shot. I'm watching a combo of deer going from one area to the next and also see different deer that never come up to the current stand. I'm working ER the next 6 months (thank the Lord) so I will only be working about 12-14shifts/month. Hopefully I will get some good hunting in for the first time in 4 seasons.

I think it depends on herd numbers and mature buck numbers. If you have a high deer density it matters less than if the numbers are fewer and scattered.

If you hear the text you just sent, ding on your buddys phone in the next blind about the 3 does entering his sector....well....youre too close. Honestly...if the critters dont mind....well you shouldnt either.

For deer, I dont want anyone else near my spot for a several hundred yards or so. Ive noticed some very experienced hunters dont exhibit movement discipline very well after switching from blind hunting to non-blind hunting. Ive seen some hunters spot stalk very well but they cant sit still for very long. Lack of scent discipline will ruin your hunt if your buddy hunts in the same camo he/she bull**** around the campfire the night before, slept in, smoked cigarrettes in, and subsequently is hunting upwind from you. Douse them in doe urine and put them under the feeder! Works everytime.

I have 2 stands less than 100 yards apart . One I put my daughter in . And I set in mine both are tripods . And we can't see each other but can hear if something happens .
We will text back and fourth . We both have deer come in that we don't both see . She had a buck last year I never saw . At my stand. I hand corn her area and I have a feeder .

To me "hand corn" temporary spots are different than permanent blind/feeder spots. For blinds and feeders I like at least 600yds. For hand corn 200-300 from someone else's stand and anywhere around my own stands. I typically hint hand corn spots when I'm looking for a particular deer that's not coming to the feeder.
