Good luck man. I'm not ashamed to admit that algebra is the sole reason for me quitting college. After multiple tutoring sessions I just can't grasp it, it doesn't compute in my brain.
I didn't take trig in high school, and hadnt taken a math class in twenty years before taking calculus last semester. I had to teach myself trig at the same time. It wasnt easy, but you can do it. I'm taking calculus 2 this suer, and differential equations in the fall. I was terrified of math, but like Scott, I want to be an engineer so I had to get over the fear.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy math. I, like sethcros, hadn't been in school in 20 years so I started at the bottom to build a foundation. I took Algebra this last spring session and did well enough that I could get a 40 on the final and still maintain an overall 'A' for the course. These identities and formulas are confusing the dog snot out of me. Pythagorean identities, double angle formulas , half angle formulas, quadruple angle with a twist formulas (jk). GRRRRR
I loved trig and hated calculus. I use trig EVERYDAY in my profession, so I had no choice but to learn it. Out of all of the higher maths, Trig seems to be the most useful in everyday life. Stick with it, and you will have one of those light bulb moments and it will get much easier!
I got a "D" in Trig my last semester in college. To me, at that time, "D" was good enough for my "D"iploma
Here! I was never so proud of a D before in my life. I mean man, I was VERY proud of it!! Good lord, I'm with the OP, it is the devil but I conquered him!!! Stay with it man.
