I had an interview with Gander Mountain this afternoon that sounded very positive, but it is an hourly job starting at $14 per hour with benefits. I have an interview with a school district 60 miles south of my place for an elementary teaching position in the morning and I am still in the running to replace our SEBSS (Special Education) teacher at the school I have been at since December of 2012. Problem is with the SEBSS position is I am not certified in Special Education at this time. The earliest I can take the test is July 21. According to the principal ot the school, I had the best interview and was more qualified than any of the men she interviewed, but now the director of the SE unit with LISD wants her to interview some women. Nothing against the fairer sex, but with this unit and the kids they have, they better be drill sargent or have that mentality to handle the job. 2 females prior tho this have not been able to do that. Also, according to the principal with what she told me, if I take the SE test on the 21st and do not pass it, they cannot issue me an emergency certificate (I have a year to pass the certification test) which means they could not hire me not matter what for the teaching position.
I am at a crossroads with this. If I am offered the job at Gander Mountain, do I take it or do I wait on an offer from a school and hope for the best. The job at Gander would be about a $6500 per year raise from what I was making as TA, but way less than what I could make as a teacher.
This is making my head hurt and my wife as well. I know what she wants and does not want me to look at anything with Gander or Cabela's. Cabela's has screwed me more than once on jobs and continues to do so.
For your info, I just turned 62 in May and a lot of the schools think I will retire in a couple of years and throw my resume in the trash. They will have to run me off or bury me as I do not plan of retiring anytime soon. I do not play golf and do not want to sit at the house.
What say you GS, I would love to hear what you thought are. Let me hear it!
