Strange feeling at Rough Creek Lodge today!

Finally a day off...Susan and I took "Thumper" out for a ride in the North Texas Hill Country. Beautiful "tree canopied" roads between Glen Rose and Granbury. We stopped on a one lane country road that has 2 tributaries from the Paluxy River that cross the road (where she took this pic.) We got hungry and I was going to take her to Bluff Dale for one of those GREAT, greasy cheeseburgers but then...a thought.

Since I'm working on her birthday, no rest for us in the land sales business, I had a spur of the moment idea to surprise her for lunch. She has never been to Rough Creek Lodge, just west of Glen Rose. This place is a "High Dollar" resort with a superb lodge, food, fishing, hunting...but more than I can afford day to day. When we pulled up there was a very large "Dallas Cowboy" RV and we soon learned "executives" from the organization had come down for a "1" day business meeting. There is always some type of "big wigs or celebs" who come here.

Anyway, great lunch then I took her on a tour of the facility. When we drove by the "gun range," where Navy Seal Kris Kyle lost his life, it was just surreal. We parked for a while and I told my lady all about what I had read (followed his Legacy and MURDER very closely) and it was just STRANGE for me. The last thing I said as we were leaving was how PATHETIC it was he lost his life to a COWARD after all he had done as a Seal.

Just wanted to share....Oh, don't make fun of my "skinny old legs," still got my Gun's, arms that is and "Thumper" is our Jeep's name...

Not only because of his service, but for his wife and kids.....the whole thing is just tragic.

Great post. BTW, my first car was a 1978 Jeep CJ5 Levis Edition. It's Colorado license plate read THUMPR.
