I am pleased to say that my neighbors have stood side by side and joined forces to both prepare and cleanup after the hurricane. Before Ike hit, we all got together and moved from house to house, boarding windows and cleaning everyones yards up before the storm. Shortly after the storm, once again it was house to house, cleaning up limbs and downed trees and making repairs. I can tell you we have 2 or 3 generators that are being split between a half dozen or more houses. Every nigh its like national night out, everyone just kinda sits and chills in someones driveway till the sun goes down. I have yet to see any of my neighbors on TV waiting for a handout, or bashing the local officials and FEMA. WE WILL SURVIVE..........AND WE WILL DO IT TOGETHER........

Your neighbors sound a lot like mine. This storm definately brought the cul-de-sac together, and even the less social neighbors were out helping and hanging out with each other.
Difficult times can either tear apart or make stronger. I believe in this case it has made us stronger.

Glad to have my nieghbor as well. He sat on his front porch while the storm past through keeping an eye on my house ,with me in Kansas and my wife in Bryan. I cannot say thanks enough.
Saw an interview last night on the news with people from Galveston and Bolivar Peninsula and when ask what they needed all they said was, AND GET THIS....
POWER.....
They said get us power so we can get started.
They didn't ask for money, food, water, or FEMA Housing.... No they ask for Power. Nobody looking for FEMA, they are looking for the power companies and will probably help them just so they can start rebuilding.......
Maybe it says something about our Geographical Location???
