The Red River is cresting - pic

This is the I-35 bridge over the Red River north of Gainesville. Amazing - there's usually a 30-40 foot drop to the water from that bridge

Amazing sight. I have been over that bridge many times. I saw an interesting piece on yahoo this morning. As a kid, we would swim at Turner Falls in OK every summer. The pictures I saw this morning showed Turner Falls flooded out. Crazy to see after all these years.

Man, I bet that bridge has a strange feeling crossing it with all that water causing it to sway!

I wonder if that thing can handle the side load when the water gets a couple feet higher?

I went to my Mom's a couple of weeks ago and had to cross the Brazos on 174. Usually a 30 -40 foot drop too and the water was right at the bottom of the bridge. Kinda scary water that high.

Good thought. Also the top pressure against the footing that's been saturated. What about trees and other large objects. We saw 40 yard dumpster floating in the trinity today it was wedged against the pillars.

That's what the railroad bridge looked like on the Trinity at Hwy 90 in Liberty yesterday evening when I crossed it! MAN that's a lot of water in BOTH rivers!!

I was across the Red on Monday on 271 north of Paris, and I'm now wondering how high the water is there. By the silt and debris on fences, it looked like it had already been out during the last round of storms.

That's actually a pretty interesting question Dale. I wonder if it was even engineered to have to IF warranted? Has it ever been tested?

Here is the same bridge at normal levels...between the 2.

This kinda helps put it into perspective for those of us that don't live around here.
