        Also "Texas Ranger Jack Hays in the Frontier Southwest" is cool.

              The Son by Phillip Myer
              Not historical, but defintely a Texas setting.

              Miles Arceneaux
              Ransom Island, Lasalle's Ghost and 1 more.

              Again, not historical, but these are great books to read, the setting for these books is the gulf coast. Port A, Aransas Pass area.

                          Forgotten Soldier... by Guy Sajer. A great read about one Getman soldier’s experience on the Eastern Front in WWII. Great to read when it’s cold outside!
