Cordless drill /combo set question

Well, my porter cable 18 volt drill cratered on me. So I'm in the market for a new one.
I'm learning towards Milwaukee or DeWalt.

I see that they have combo sets that include the drill and a 1/4" impact driver.

What exactly does the 1/4'' impact driver do, that the drill wont?
Is it worth an extra $ 75 to get the combo. 1/4" impact just sounds funny to me.

I have a 3/8" impact...old bolts, lag bolts....will suck down a nut and those long winded lock nuts fast!

I bought a combo set like that and I use my impact more that my drill. I just bought bits that will connect to the impact. Much faster, and much tighter. Be careful though, my 20v impact will rip the heads off of some bolts if you aren't careful. They're bad to the bone for a battery powered impact driver.

Dewalt and get the impact .. You'll never use the regular anymore

I have a 1/2' drive Milwaukee...its a bad dood!

These are 1/4" drive. Just seeing if it would be useful or if its like the rest of the tools that came with my cordless set that I never used.....like the flashlight, reciprocating saw and circular saw.

Right now Lowes has Drill and impact combo 20v with 2 batteries for $159 great deal IMO I picked up a set yesterday.

OK. I see what your talking about....use the drill...for a drill Use the impact for the driver.

What brand...lotsa sells for fathers day. Guess mine broke at the right time....but my wife thinks it was on purpose!

Wife bought me the new Ryobi One+ kit. I use the impact to change tires on the camper and taking off stuck bolts on my truck. Love it. You can buy over 50 tools that all use the same battery. The battery lasts a long time and charges in less than 30 minutes.

My old 12V Dewalt went out after about 10 years of use last year and I replaced it with a Makita and have been happy with it. I now have the Impact Driver and sawzall to go with it.

Those kits come with an impact wrench that is decent, but if you're wanting to use it for things that you would use an air impact for it won't do the trick. The impact driver is what you need and it costs significantly more than the basic impact that those kits come with.

Pretty sure there is a ryobi kit of the same thing one drill and one impact for like 75$-100$ at one of the big box stores...

I Love my Rigid set. And if you fill out the card I believe they have lifetime warranty on the batteries or they used to.

Makita and I love my impact driver. Use it to drive lag bolts without predrilling... breaking rusty nolts loose, etc. I tend to use my driver more than my drill. Lots more torque!
