    Question for the TBH Taxidermists!

We recently installed a 9' tall creosote privacy fence at camp to block all of our electrical panels and water storage tanks, etc. The fence is located next to the parking lot, so I thought I would dress it up a bit. We have countless european mounts that I would like to hang on the fence, but I'm sure the sun and weather will quickly accelerate the aging process......(much faster than the creosote fence that will be there 100 years from now)!

Can I soak the skulls and horns in any solution or weather sealant that will prolong the life? We have some really nice skulls of red deer, whitetails, blackbuck, etc.....and I don't want to completely destroy them.

Thank you for the feedback and suggestions!

I've never tried but you could try, I'd start with clear uv resistant sealer. Plan on doing lots of hunting to keep research specimens coming in.

Ha! Unfortunately.........mother nature and the local predator population provide plenty of specimens.

I'll check with Jasek tomorrow, see if he has any thoughts.

Thanks, Mike. Maybe I should've posted a picture of a bobcat mount and asked for feedback. That would have certainly solicited some responses!

They won't last long Regaurdless. I've tried it. They will biodegrade. Thompson water seal would be your best bet though.

Just hang them like you find them. That's what we do. Then just keep hanging new ones as they come along. If you want to preserve them, you will need to keep them inside.

yeah nothing I'm aware of is going to save them for long unless you coat them in fiberglass resin

Now this got some attention!! To funny!
Never tried it, but one thing you could try is to paint the skull with fiberglass resin and paint it when it sets up. Paint them a automotive primer and a white top coat. When dry thin down some brown and dry brush it and wipe off with a rag. This will leave the brown in the cracks and crevices and give it some depth and texture.
Heck, I may have to give this a try myself!!
Like the wall by the way! Good job.

Put an over hang on it (roof) to keep them shaded and out of direct weather.

Thanks for the feedback, gents! I'm going to give it a try and will report back in 12-60 months depending on the success!
