    deer feeder, chicken wire, squirrel

Will chicken wire keep out squirrel's? I have a homemade cage around my feeder for the coons but the squirrel get in and chew the sides of the little funnel before the spinner and dump all the corn. I do not mind if the corn is not thrown very far so if it drops straight down then no big deal. Any thoughts?

Get 1" square mesh. They will crawl through chicken wire

Sounds good. I will get some and wrap the feeder up.

Make the cage the same diameter as the barrel and come at least 6" below the feeder box. I attach mine with a ratchet strap--makes it easy to take off to do feeder work if necessary.

As mentioned above, 1" square mesh is the ticket. It's somewhat overkill but I'm a fan of overkill.

I built a lot of cages, but the store bought ones from Ultramatic are nice and come with a trap door to have access to the timer. Keeps the birds off the trays too.
I have said it here a dozen times: 40" PVC pipes around the legs suspended by light chains to allow spinning have eliminated my squirrel and coon problems, but I use the cages anyway. I have thousands of photos of squirrels and coons underneath, but none on the cages.
