Sometimes I feel sorry for kids that stay in one place.

Don't feel sorry for me. I'm thankful my parents didn't move me around as a kid. I've lived in the same place just about my entire life and don't plan on ever leaving. My children go to the same school I went to from kindergarten til I graduated high school and I plan for them to do the same.

I got out so my kids wouldn't have to move so much, but I do think they will be missing out

My first 18 years were spent on an Air force Base. That was a good video and all of it true. When people ask where I am from I have just started saying New Mexico because that is where I graduated High School.
I wouldn't trade it for the world because I got to see the world before I was 10 years old. My dad was in for 28 years. Retired Chief!

I'm not a military brat, but my dad worked on many military contracts so we moved around a lot too. I have lived in 17 states, and moved over 50 times. I stopped counting at 50. Now, I am rooted in East Texas. Before coming here, the longest I lived anywhere was one 4 year stay in Florida, and before that was less than 2 years. The 7th grade, four schools, four states.
I remember when we lived in Connecticut, we could have all the fresh lobster we wanted, but then we moved to New Orleans and all we could get was crawdads. This was before Fed-Ex came into being and changed the world.
I do feel sorry for kids that never move around, some things can only be experienced, like what it's like to be the new kid in town. I also feel sorry for kids that move around a lot. I'll never know what a lifelong friendship is, or what it's like to graduate with the same kids I was with in the 1st grade. So in the end, I guess it all works out. I'm glad for all the experiences I had, but also glad I don't move around much anymore.

Kids are resilient. Mine have lived in three states so far and still bring home straight a's. They don't seem to mind and make friends wherever we go. God Bless the spouses who take care of the usual day to day while the servicemember goes off to work wherever a days whenever called

Wow..........I can relate!!! Great post!!! I am the only child born stateside in our home state of Louisiana and that was completely due to the fact my grandfathers doctor called to say he would not make it thru the week..................he died when I was 13!!!! Both my siblings were born in Libiya on the air base. I really liked Turkey (except the huge alley cats and earthquakes) and plan to visit someday with my daughter. Really made me look at the world much differently and to understand that folks love their kids everywhere and only want the best for their families............even if it seems backwards to us.

Yes I thought it would have been cool to grow up all around the world. However, I had never seen so many divorce in my life as i did in the short time served. The millitary is hell on a marriage and I commend couples who can survive it.

Interesting Oscar! My dad was in the JAG corp and my sister was the last American born at Wheelus (she arrived early and no time to get to Germany). Dad was Chappie James' right hand man and stood there with Chappie and Muammar Khadafy (dad takes credit for unsuccessfully negotiating our departure from Wheelus). I think Chappie died within 8-10 years of that. According to pops he was a great man. Years later my dad was testifying in front of Congress and some smart aleck wormy Congressman was trying to needle him and he said, "Mr. ____________, just one second there. Lets get one thing straight. If you think you are going to intimidate me you are sadly mistaken. I have sat across the table from Muammar Khadafy and his goons. Lets just say you don't intimidate me. I'm sorry, can you repeat the question." We have the Congressional Record somewhere--hilarious read.

My dad retired from the Navy while I was only 2 so he didn't move me around a lot. I was stationed at 4 bases in 9 years so my children got to move quite a bit. My kids have experienced playing baseball in Amsterdam, fishing at Mt. Fuji, climbing the Eilfel Tower, and my oldest daughter was born in Japan. They have got to see the world and experience things most will never know. I think moving was hard on them sometimes but they did enjoy the experiences.

As a kid I only moved 4 times while my dad was in the Army. I actually liked moving as a kid. The Airforce was sending me around more often part of the reason I got out
