    A/C programming?

Arguing with the wife over the thermostat I have it set to 78 during the day when we are not there and pulling down to 74 at 5:00pm then 70 for sleeping at 10:00pm. She claims the system has to work to hard during the heat of the day to cool it down and is costing us (me) more money. She wants it to just stay cold all day. If she is right (doubt it) then why all the rage over these "learning" thermostats?

Its really gonna have to work hard all day if you keep it turned down. We pretty much do as you have been doing and its fine.

72 during the day, 70 when we get home, 68 at night.

Anything higher is just uncomfortable and I refuse to be uncomfortable at home.

What you have yours on is almost exactly how mine is programmed. (I'm an ac tech) You are correct.
There will be a lot more run time throughout the day to maintain 70 than to maintain 76.
