I have an interview with the Brownfield ISD for an elementary teaching position in the morning at 10 am. I have been certified in EC-6 (elementary) since last summer and this is the first interview I am having after applying to "I have no idea how many teaching positions".
I am super pumped but realize that I may not get the position, but at least someone did not throw my application in the trash due to my age, 62, and thinking I will retire in a few years. I know a lot of the no interviews is age discrimination, but there is no way to prove it.
I have been a Para Professional (politically correct term for a common TA) in a SEBSS (Special Ed) classroom since December 2012. I have babysat a first grader, a second grader and 2 third graders thru the years since I have been there and have been bloodied, peed on, scratched, spit on, cussed out and hit with fists, feet and belts along with shoes in my time there so I don't think I will have trouble with any student.
I just want a position in an elementary setting. I really do not have to work, I just want to. No desire to retire until they run me off so that is not a problem. I just want to TEACH! I am also going to (unless i get hired somewhere other than Lubbock ISD) try and get my Special Education certification this summer ASAP as the teacher I was working with resigned and took an IT position at a bank. Not sure I will get an interview with the school I am or was at, but I am trying.
Wish me luck and prayers and even if I do not get this position in Brownfield, this is a start.
