When I followed Adkins to the letter, I lost 20lbs in 2 months. It wasn't too hard, but I wouldn't say it was easy either. The first 2 weeks were the hardest. Muscle cramps are what I remember the most.

After 2 months, I had gained the discipline to follow a healthy low carb diet that excludes all white bread and sugar. 50% proteins, 30% fats, 20% carbs. Watch out for the fruits. Good for you, but also high in sugar carbs.

Haven't had candy, chips, or any desserts whatsoever in years. The only one I miss is the big bowl of chocolate ice cream.

    Good Luck.

If you have a cholesterol or lipids issue that requires medication I would definitely see a physician first.

Lots of good points here but you have to find what works for you. I sure there will be some controversy on this one but everyone is different, not one plan works for everyone the same. I too have struggled with weight and have had some plans with great success, such as the Atkins. I lost a good bit of weight but it's had to sustain over time as someone mentioned. I can relate to coming off the plan for a vacation trip, after losing 35# and in only a week gained 14# back and that was with walking 8-10 miles a day at Disney. It was incomprehensible to me, lol.

I did have my best success with Medifast and lost 86# on that program. It is easy and simple to follow. I used the 5/1 plan as I take people out to lunch every day for work. 1 lean and grean meal and then 5 other meals of a power bar/soup/shake. The carbs are very minimal on this plan and that can lead to energy issues. An example was after Rita at our deer lease, been on the plan for 5 months and lost about 70#, best shape of my life, ever. I got so winded and beat down after a 1/2 mile walk climbing over and under tree limbs that I got very fatigued. I was very well hydrated but the lack of carbs for sustained energy like was needed was lacking. After some research, I added a power bar in the diet and that made all the difference.

I would look at Medifast if you need to drop some weight. It's easy to do and you can order the products online. I think someone else here had great success with it as well. I think there is an old thread somewhere around here.

It all comes down to how many calories you consume and how many calories your body can burn. You need to find out what that number is and eat less than that. Cutting out carbs is not healthy for you, your body needs them, as in 100% whole wheat bread, brown rice, sweet potatoes as some examples. Those are things your body needs for energy which are also high in fiber leaving you feeling full longer. Quit sodas, eat real food and eat less calories than you body burns and you'll lose weight, guarantee it.

The best line I've heard on eating for a lifestyle change is to eat for fuel not pleasure. Eat just enough to get you to your next little meal and make it good wholesome food and you'll get results.

To lose one pound, a person must burn 3,500 calories more than are consumed (500 calories per day over the course of a week). For example, reducing calories by 300 per day and increasing daily activity to burn off an additional 200 calories should result in a weight loss of one pound per week.

Use this calorie calculator to determine how many calories your body can burn a day then eat 500 calories per day less to burn a pound a week. 1 to 2 pounds per week is what you are looking for. Once you get that down experiment with different foods to find what fits your liking and keeps you on track. Thing like boiled eggs, nuts, fruit are great for healthy snacks between meals. Just make sure you don't cheat, count every single calorie you consume.

Agree. In our home we say "eat to nourish our bodies, not for entertainment/pleasure". We still eat a lot of foods we enjoy, but some we don't. We teach our kids that it's what our body needs to stay healthy.

We still cheat sometimes. But it's on one meal, not one day or one week. Either way, I don't consume sugar or white breads.

Bro try this first.. Light to moderate excerise, water only to drink, and zero fast foods. Grill steaks, fish, chicken, and keep the carbs but have a bit smaller portions at all meals. I bet the DP alone makes a difference. Give that some time and go from there if it doesn't work but I bet it does and as you feel better you'll wanna be more active so the exercise will increase.
