Did we have this discussion and I somehow missed it?

Feeding black eyed peas thru a spin cast feeder? I had a friend out of Louisiana tell me they do that and that deer will still come to it when acorns are falling. It's 22% protein and no worries about aflatoxin.

I have not heard that, but sounds $$

Sure it wasn't "pea gravel" and not "black eyed peas"?

There have been discussions about it, but they are expensive. I've used a product from peas plus. My deer never went crazy for them and I want to say they were close to $15-16 a bag

Yes we do in Camp Wood. Our mix in the 600lb feeders with eliminator spin plates is corn, milo, protein, and black eyed peas. Unsure on percentages. Was visiting with my uncle last night and he hasn't had a feeder problem in 26 months on 11 feeders. The mix has been very good for us, I believe he picks it up in Uvalde and am unsure on price per bag.

              Just found this thread:

My experience as well, i was buyin a mix with corn. Deer wouldnt even look at it, but would eat the corn. I have heard if you can get them started on it they love it but my deer were too picky

We tried it years ago on a hill country lease mixed with corn and the deer would eat the corn and leave the peas laying on the ground. Maybe it takes a few years for them to get used to it but we tried it for a year and then quit.

Same thing with us on "Horn Corn", (corn & soy beans).

I filled several feeders with it in San Saba county years ago because the feed store was out of corn. I'd never heard of using them but he sold me with, "oh yeah, everybody has good luck with them around here". Things might be different now but I might as well have used pea gravel. Pretty sure some of those peas are still laying on the ground inside the feeder pens.

This was my experience also. Deer would eat them, but not very well.

I have fed a pea and corn mix. It was a drought year and the deer ate it well. It will go through the feeders fine.
