    King Crab legs, please help

Ok my youngest had these at all places at her school. She is not much of a fish person so I was surprised she liked it.

I am thinking of making some. HEB has them. They are previously frozen. Help me out please. How do I make em? Boiled, steamed? Seasoning? I wanna make it a meal. What spices do you recommend?

Can I add shrimp. taters or? Dipping sauce most looks like REAL butter and? Help a brother out I know you guys have made em, chime in.

Super easy to make. Most people probly steam them but I boil them. I use crab boil. I would do taters, corn, or whatever else you use. The last thing you do is the legs. They don't need long to cook. I cook mine for about 3-5 mins. Typically if I'm doing shrimp I put both shrimp and legs in at the same time. Good luck. Enjoy!

King crab is one of my favorite things. We usually steam them but I've also heated them up on the grill and in the oven and even in crawfish boil. I usually stick to clarified butter when it comes to dipping.

Also, they are already cooked so you just need to get them hot. No need for long cooking. I think I even saw them use the microwave on the cooking channel once. Wrapped in damp paper towel and nuked.

Kinda like a mud bug meal? Pretty much put the same stuff. So steamed huh? Yeah I read a article that said if you boil they will absorb too much water and loose flavor. Ok cook outside or safe to go inside (smell)? How much crab do I need er person? 1lb per person or??

We take our crawfish boiling pot and basket. Put about a quarter pot of water in, turn the basket upside down in the pot. When the water boils put the legs onto of the basket, cover and steam.

                    My version......

Cut them down each side, remove the top portion of the shell (Make it look like a hot dog in a bun). Pour a small amount of butter on all of the meat, season with your favorite seafood blend. I like seafood magic with a touch of Old Bay. Then place on a hot grill. They are already cooked so you just need to heat them up.

Do not pour butter on the meat while it is in the grill!!!! it will just flare up and cause the shell to blacken and taste burnt....

Serve with melted butter with you favorite seasoning mixed in.....

Or mix garlic, butter, parm cheese.... do the same as above but after 3-4 minutes on the grill pour s small amount of beer/water on the coals. Shut the lid and wait 1-2 more minutes (watch out for the steam!!!!!)

Were they "king crab" or "snow crab" legs ?

IIRC, snow crab meat tastes sweeter and should only be steamed, then dipped in drawn butter

King crab is primarily steamed , although cooking in a low gentle boil until meat cooked is another method.

If king crab, I'd season the water like when boiling crawfish/crabs , add lemons, and bring water to a low gentle boil. Then add the crab legs and immediately turn off fire. Let the crab legs cook slow and low , as 20 minutes soak time is fine. Check/taste meat to see if cooked .... if rubbery then not done.

I do my shrimp this same way... season water, bring to a low gentle boil, add shrimp and immediately turn off flame. Shrimp are delicate and very easy to ruin. Slow and low as they are basically soaking in hot seasoned water. Once the tail meat is done and shells peel perfectly, you can add frozen ears of corn or ice to stop the cooking process and let shrimp soak to absorb flavor. IMO, if you are boiling the shrimp you are doing it all wrong and run the risk of having shells stick (hard to peel).

Just like a crawfish boil. You don't need to boil them long. They are already cooked. Really you are just warming them up. The only smell is from the seasoning. Depends on how spicy you want them. I would just go buy one of those season bags. That would be fine. My wife and I usually do about 3-4 lbs for the both of us.
