For you guys pulling someone that's stuck, use a D-Ring in your receiver or a tow hook. Tow balls are not designed for that kind of linear shock, especially the ones Made in China.

Crosby 1" shackle is good for 8.5 tons with a 5:1 safety factor (17,000# x 5), if your gonna play silly games a Crosby 1" too 1.25" shackle will fit most receiver hitch holes and is USA made and they back their rigging.
