    heart valve ticking

A quick search on here shows that some other guys on here have had a heart valve replaced. I recently had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve. I have had several people tell me they can hear the valve ticking. Is this something I should worry about come Opening Day? Will I be scaring all the deer off, or will they even be able to hear the ticking at 20-30 yards? Any of you fellow mechanical heart valve guys have any experiences with this?

They tick like in the book, The Tell-Tale Heart

    No experience from me.

Typically this clicking can only be heard with the use of a stethoscope or when someone places their head on your chest. Highly unlikely that a deer will be able to hear this. If the person themselves can hear it, this is usually the result of vibrations from within their own chest making it audible to only them. No worries!!! Unless you plan to let the deer place their head on your chest
        Happy hunting!

You have to stay calm and keep your heart rate down. JK. have to really listen to hear my dad's so I wouldn't think it would be a problem

Well...you cant take it out for deer season so dont worry about the sound. I used to work with post bypass and valve replacements..some are louder than others but usually no louder than an old school watch. You'll be fine. Have fun ittl just give you another reason to say your better than a fellow hunter...."you hear this ticking? I still kill deer ever year, whats wrong with you"

They will just mistake it for one of those cheap Moultree timers.
May even follow you around waiting for it to go off.

I have recently had my aortic valve replaced as well. I went with the St. Jude valve and it is LOUD!!! They say it's normal, but to me it is very loud. It took me weeks to get used to the noise as it kept me awake at night!!! The guys at work say that they can tell when I get mad because the ticking speeds up! Unfortunately I can't give you any advice on the hunting aspect of it because like you, my valve is too new.

My sister dated a guy hen she was in high school who had one. At the dinner table you could definitely hear it but other than that noises drowned it out. I think you will be ok

I always wonder if the deer can hear the Tinnitus in my head it's so loud. He he...

Especially when I'm really in the shoot no shoot mode.

I think your clicking will be just another junk noise in the cacophony they hear all the time.

                      Hunt on!

Sounds like it needs lubing. I'd eat a bunch of sausage or chicken fried steak. That'll fix you right up.

If the ticking stops, then start to worry...
