There was a post on here last week about this but I think it was lost in the crash. How do you hunt the rut?, at the feeder like always, or on a well used trails, in more open areas or in the thick stuff. I have tons of good sign everywhere on our place, but im not seeing much when im hunting over my feeder. I see alot of movement in the brush around me, but nothing seems very intrested in coming closer, do I need to change strategy or what?

During the rut we hunt really hard but still at feeders. The does are usually hitting them hard and they bucks are soon to follow. Right now we dont have much action at our feeders either but thats because theres so much browse at other places. It wont be long before they start hitting the feeders hard.

Hand corn areas in heavy cover areas and set the does up. Work your North and South wind to adjust for weather on various setups. Dump corn and leave it to the does. Over time they will start checking these areas and the proximity to excellent cover will keep the big boys happy as the rut starts. Then the routine gets established and it's an all day game. Several setups will allow for adjustments as you grunt, rattle and doe bleep throughout the day.
Don't forget the camera.
