Went pig hunting with my Aggie buddy last night (this is intended to be an Aggie joke-free thread).
There had been two different sounders showing up at the feeders some 150 yds. apart in the same pasture right next to the wooded area they live in. So wet as it was, we 4-wheeled our way to a spot about 80 yds. from the northernmost one, looking to shoot the .306 by cradling it over the mirror mount while still sitting in the pickup.
First off, there was no moon. We'd counted on using the IR monocular, but John's wife was traveling, and he'd failed to ask her its whereabouts after she last cleaned the house. So we're left with the green scope light which of course you've gotta wave around in the dark in order to align with your viewing object.
Next, the feeder light wasn't working (Wildlife Innovations piece of crap - don't ever buy one). I can't remember how many times I'd told John to get a good 60-led security light for less than $50 from Northern Tool..... I'd even given him a sheet of the green translucent jell-paper tp place under its glass cover so the pigs wouldn't pick up on it.
Mosquitoes. And why wouldn't there be mosquitoes after 10+ inches of rain over the last 10 days? I said, hand me the Off. What Off, he says. I say it's time to go back to the house. He agrees. I'm just glad we made it through the pasture what with all the slipping and sliding, even with 4-wheel.
