Plus a barndominium will have a lot more resale value when you're than a trailer house

We built for about a 40% savings over any of the quotes we got from local builders. The house appraised this year for DOUBLE what we spent 3.5 years ago. The oonsultant basically did the majority of the heavy lifting as I have never built anything in my life......LOL! My wife is laughing as our home ended up on video before we had landscaped, completed the movie theater, completed the game room, built the pool, outdoor firepit, outdoor kitchen or even had moved in all of our stuff from storage facilities. I really need them to re-shoot the home and property.

buy a used trailer and save up for the house.

they depreciate pretty quick, so you should be able to snap one up cheap

Great suggestion! Bargains abound with the current credit problems among Americans!

I've got several clients I sold land to that are building these. Of our 3 developments currently going, 2 allow but 1 does not. The one with restrictions that prohibit this have cost me 2 sales. We have a new project coming up with about 150 2-5 acre sites and I'm just hoping they are allowed.

Basically after 30 years you have a mobile home that's not worth squat where with a house its generally worth more than you paid for it.

X2 land and/or house is the best investment one can make.

I'm not a fan of mobile homes but for a weekend place they would work. Problem is as stated no resale value.

I paid cash for a 2 year old 1200 sq. foot 3-2 mobile home. It is not fancy. My recliner feels great, my bed is comfortable, the shower is hot, and the AC is cold.

I did not want a payment.

It will do for now and maybe a few more years.

I am very close to retirement so all is good!

Wife and I have lived in a Solitaire mobile home for 20 years and love it. Just routine maintenance. No worse than a house on a slab. All depends on your financial situation.

Not a bad choice, you can buy a nice mobile home for what a F 250 cost
                            Go figure!

My wife and I are probably going to get a mobile home as a 5 year home. We're going as cheap as possible, so that we can pay it off in 5 years. Then use it as a rental property, after we build our "put-down-roots" home.

I'm tired of paying $1300 /mo for rent, and we can't afford anything at all in our area. So we're moving further away from houston, and getting what we hope to be lot and home all together under $50k

As a few here have said, it all depends on your financial situation. For us, the main issue is monthly cash flow and credit. If I had great credit, and a decent down payment, I probably wouldn't get a mobile... Though I would consider a modular.

If I had $100K cash, not including land, hands down, I'd sub-contract and build a house.
