from the refuge manager Kathy Whaley
Lake Texoma is rising rapidly due to all the recent rains and for
visitors this weekend and the next few days, here is information from
Kathy Whaley, Refuge Manager:
We have pretty significant flooding this morning as the lake has
risen a foot since yesterday. By Saturday evening, it will likely be
up and over Wildlife Drive past the Harris Creek bridge. If this
happens the road will be barricaded (1) just past the Visitor Center
driveway, (2) at the west end of Wildlife Drive just east of the stop
sign by Meadow Pond Trail, and (3) north of the Meyers low water
crossing (which is completely impassible now due to rapid flow). It
will re-open when safe and it has had time to dry out to avoid
complete destruction by traffic.
Will keep you posted.
(If Wildlife Drive is closed, tram tours are cancelled)
Programs at the Visitor Center will be held as scheduled, however
Refuge Road may be the only route into the Refuge.
