    The Greatest Generation

Here is a video testimony to them--I salute them as well.

There's a reason they are called "The Greatest Generation"--they are like steel-tempered in the fire, and hammered on the anvil of the Great Depression, then they rid the world of Hitler, Tojo, and Mussolini---

They came home and built the United States into the super power, never expecting anything other than a fair day's pay for a fair day's work. I know it pains them to see how far we've departed from the legacy they left us.

That was awesome dustoffer - thanks for the link. The best book I have read about those naval battles in the Pacific is "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors". Really gives you a realistic picture of what it was like. Having never served it is always amazing to me how whether it was WWII, Korea, Vietnam or Iraq/Afghanistan it is mostly 18 and 19 year olds being commanded by 25 year olds. I guess You grow up fast in wartime - but all you veterans know that from personal experience...

Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping to get out and visit my Uncle soon. One of the few fighter pilots still alive from WWII. He just lost a leg last week to diabetes so any prayers you can offer up for him would be appreciated. I always welcome the opportunity when he shares stories of his experiences. Uncle Louis Thompson was credited with the last confirmed Japanese plane brought down. A huge thanks to all our veterans.

jerp--I was a 24 y.o. "aircraft commander" in VN, responsible for me, my pilot, crewchief, medic, and all the patients I hauled. Never considered it extraordinary then, but as I look back, it was definitely tense at times. And, many of our warrant officer pilots were "high school to flight school" products, meaning they were 19 y.0. and doing it.

Thank you for the link. I cannot even imagine what that had to be like.

Thanks for sharing. I can't imagine what that must have been like, being a sailor aboard a ship, while kamikazees attacked, with nowhere to run or hide.

I served as a grunt in Nam and I could at least get behind a tree or in a hole.

When your out in the ocean your a sitting duck.

They were definitely the "Greatest Generation".

Thanks for your service dustoffer. You may have medevaced some of my buddies.
