    best deck treatment? ??

I'm sure this has been visited before, but many new products have came out.

I need to treat my boathouse that has a 30x40ft deck on top. What is the best treatment you have used? I'm thinking of using something like the Rustoleum Restore 10x, to fill in cracks, on the walkways, and regular stain on the rest.

    Any suggestions?

    Good ole Thompsons Water Seal.

Had our two level deck for about 14 years now and all we had to replace was the verical railings that is holding the railing due to my kids kicking soccer balls/throwing baseballs and missing and destroying these 1 1/2" wide verical railings.

First few years we sealed it about once every 18 months. Now I do it about twice every 18 months.

It still looks great but I think we have another 5-10 years left before replacing the actual deckfloorboards.

Sorry, but I would not use Thompson's water seal if it was given to me Worst product i have ever used. Wood Defender is recommended by most up here.

          tagged for my camp patio

Buddy of mine used Olympic sealant on his pier. You can add tint to it and make it whatever color you want

I used Rustoeleum 4X on my deck and back porch. Did decent on the wood, didn't stick very well to the porch and came up on layers in some spots. If i had to do it again, I would have used Behar deck over or the Rustoeleum 10x layer.

Ditto on Thompson's! Most contractors I have spoken with over the years believe Thompsons has great marketing and a poor product(s). Have not used Wood Defender but I did a LOT of research before I stained my ipe deck at a prior house. TWP---Total wood preservative--seemed to get the nod of many professionals. I used it on my deck and garage doors and the stuff is great.

Kabot is the best stuff I've found for outdoor applications, it's not cheap but worth the price in my Opinion....

The best I know of is sold at Benjamin moore. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but it is a marine grade sealent. And it's expensive. I've used it on a couple of homes I've built.

TWP is good stuff. This was recommended when we built our log home. We got ours through Satterwhite log homes. Glad I saw this because I need to get some more for the house this summer.

                            Sorry. Just saw this. TWPstain.com

I think they have a section on their site that shows where/if it can be bought locally. I have ordered from them 3 or 4 times and shipping is very reasonable on a 5 gallon can! Delivery time to Austin is only 2-3 days. Great stuff.

Sikkens is the name of the stuff I was thinking about. The ol brain finally kicked in. Guess it needed that coffee.
