Looking to make a trip to Gulf Shore, Al this summer and thinking of pulling our travel trailer and staying at the state park. But that's a long drive with 3 kids so thinking of trying to hit a park for an overnight stay or two. Right now thinking of something on the way around Baton Rouge and on the way back either Lafayette or somewhere between Lafayette and Beaumont. Any suggestions. Anything along the route that we should see?

you could spend 4-5 days at Cajun Palms with countless things to do around Lafayette ... tour Avery Island Tabasco Plantation, do an alligator swamp tour in the Atchafalaya Basin, visit Vermiliionville which is a replica town of 19th century Cajun lifestyle and living, eat killer food listening to Cajun bands, visit downtown and hear live zydeco and local music, eat boudin and cracklins till you can't walk, etc....

Way out to Gulf Shores: Georgetown->Henderson, LA (5 nights) ->Gulf Shore (8 nights)
Way home: Gulf Shores->Beaumont(1 night)->Georgetown
Get home and have 2 days off before going back to work.
