    Bee Removal- Lockhart/Luling

Any beekeepers in Caldwell county looking to add a hive to their collection? The Texan has a hive on his ranch in a tree that we would like removed.

The entrance to the hive is a hole in a cut tree limb about 8 ft off the ground. Would like to have somebody come take the bees and avoid having to kill them.

    Thanks

Reached out to Central Texas Beekeepers Assoc. on the book of faces... Apparently bee removal from a tree costs anywhere from 400-500 dollars plus travel fees. As much as I really do want to save the bees- it ain't happening at that price.

Unless another (much cheaper) option comes up- the bees will be exterminated. This hive is 10ft off a main ranch road that we drive regularly and shred often. If it was in a more remote area of the ranch, we wouldn't have a problem.

Any other brain trust suggestions? Would rather not have to kill them, but it's looking like the only affordable option.

          Burn it with fire!!

On a more serious note there is a beekeeper in Yoakum. I can not remember the name of it. Maybe they could relocate to their hives?

Maybe call the County Extension Agent? My mom did this recently in Victoria and they gave her the names of 3 beekeepers. The first one she called came and took them for no charge.

Call Bradley Ware 254-394-2153. He is a bee-keeper and is very reasonable. If he does not want to do it, he might be able to send you to one of his colleagues.

You would think they would do it for free. I would check with a Honey mfg and see if they will come and get them. We had the same problem. They wanted to charge. The tree was in a high traffic area at our ranch. One cool morning when they were all in the hive (about 50 degrees) we quietly snuk up to it and started on the outside of the hole going around it with expanding foam until the hole was filled. Never had another problem. Since then the foam has rotted away and the hole is still in the tree but no bees. We also had an old farm house that had a hive it it also. When you drove buy they would attach the truck. So one afternoon our ranch foreman (he's not allergic) snuk in and set it on fire. Now, no more house and no more bees. Hope this is helpful.

Why would they do it for free?

If they want the bees to make the honey. I would think they would come get them for free instead of having to buy them? Is that not how it works?

bee's are cheap compared to how much work goes into a cutout. Plus there is the chance of getting a hot hive and not all cutouts hive will survive.
