See some hunting cabins getting pimped out here soon!
Pretty cool stuff! And made in the USA.

Pretty cool. Would be useful if you buy some land that does not have utilities yet.

I use solar on my motorhome during the summer months. There is no way that a person is going to be able to go completely solar. There are days that the sun does not shine, and it is impossible to store enough dc in a battery to sustain the system all the time. It is a good matching system, but not a cure all. Just my $o.o2l.

Whatched the whole thing. Very impressive. Always glad when I still see an American company making these impressive leaps.

Going to be tough to compete with gas at $2.50/mcf. I think this will be sold to the really rich only...similar to the cars. $3500 for the batteries, but how much for the panels? How much to insure against hail and wind for those panels. Plus it's only intermittent. To wash and dry your clothes uses over 1/2 of the storage capacity. Interesting, but color me a skeptic.

Forbes has a write up over it...

Unless your solar-powered home is entirely disconnected from the grid, an expensive battery backup system like Powerwall does not make economic sense.

I'll sum it up for those who don't want to read it... To Rent solar panels from Tesla's sister company (large enough array to power home and charge the powerwall), pay for install, and etc.... (there are always odds and ends) you would end up paying ~ .30 cents per kwh... don't know about you, but I pay less than half that.... Heck, it would be cheaper to charge the powerwall from the grid than to run it solar.

Stick with a small install for a small property. Hunting cabin, RV, etc... power cycle older batteries (you tube it) and don't get caught up in the hype.

With that being said, that may all change as the Tesla factory gets going and cost come down. Economy of scale and all...

Tesla is kind of like Amazon...they are playing with lots of different stuff but they are eventually going to have to focus on generating profits.

I live in west Texas, I could piggy back the solar with a wind generator and shouldn't have any problem, shoot I wonder if I could sell enough back to the power company to make a lease payment.

Any plans on what we do with the batteries once they are past their life expectancy?
