Flooring Question (what is an average price for wood/laminate)

My wife and I are in Magnolia, looking to re-do some flooring in our house. Had Empire Flooring come out last night. The price we were quoted was the following. I know nothing about this stuff, just wondering if any of you know if that seems like a reasonable price or not. Thanks for any advice.

    (1) Remove 200 square foot of existing laminate in the house
    (2) Remove 577 square foot of existing carpet
    (3) Install 777 square foot of hard wood laminate flooring

Price - $6500. So basically we are paying $8.36 per square foot.

It all depends on the material as well as the padding.
What type of material are they putting back down?
Is it glue down or floating?
    It doesn't sound horrible.
Just an FYI I would probably go with glue down if it were me.

Save yourself some money and remove the flooring yourself. Should be simple

does that price include moving furniture out and back in? We had Home depot contractors come out and do some carpet at our old house, the estimator quoted one price to move all furniture except safe. When the carpet guys got there, they tried to tell my 9 month pregnant at the time that she would have to move our dresser and credenza or pay them an extra $150 to move it because it was 'oversize'. I drove home from work and after a quick chat with them and the home depot people they decided they would rather move the two pieces of furniture than not have a job to work on that day. They were very close to being run off from the job for that crap.

That seems really high, especially for laminate flooring! Sounds like they may be gouging you for the demo of the existing flooring, which should take about an hour to remove. Any idea what the $/sf is for the laminate flooring you chose is?

@cvanbrunt that price does include the moving of all furniture. The only stipulations was they all electronic devices has to be un-connected and re-connected by the home owner.

You should be able to get that job done for about $5 a sqft, including demo and moving furniture.

Google empire complaints! If this is the nationally advertised empire flooring.

Visit a local flooring store and talk to someone there. Google products and reviews on anything your interested in. $8.36 can be a really good price for a really good product or it can be a really high price for a not so good product.

Lot of variables. Is current flooring glued of floating? Current on slab or pier and beam?

You can get quality flooring from $1.50-$8.00 for the wood. Glue will cost about $100 per 200sq ft. Padding and plastic will add up too if floating a floor... As well as trim, 1/4 round, whatever is needed to finish out. Installation will be $2.00-$2.50ish a foot

Demo sucks, if it's floating take it up yourself, carpet too. If it's glued down, it's going to be a job... A job that sucks

( I'm about to remove 1000+ feet of tile). I didn't want to do that part so I had a demo guy bid it.... ($3000). I'll take it up myself for that

Thanks for all the feedback, you guys have me thinking I should cancel and at least get some other bids / offers. If anyone knows anyone / does flooring in the Magnolia area that would be interested in giving an estimate please PM me.

I don't know the cost of labor but material should range anywhere from $1.50 to $3.00 per sq.ft. obviously there are extremes on either side of that.

I had to remove the vinyl flooring in a laundry room and it took me longer than it did to remove the entire rest of the house because it was glued down.

After breaking it down a little more that may be a fair bid. What is the price of the flooring per sq ft?

Carpet removal takes nothing, the disposal is probably more than the removal cost. If the old laminated floor is glued that's where the $$$ is going

If you had to sign last night to get this special deal................cancel today! It's BS

Your probably buying a no name product and will get hit with all kinds of extras.
