    Building comunity

In light of all the stuff going on up north... as a community... and I mean COMUNITY, I have buddies of SEVERAL skin tones (ps taking applications for Asian friends, just not many around lol)

What do WE all do to a) help prevent this, and I don't mean how to PROTECT ourselves if it happens I mean how do we as a community work together so there can be enough respect that no one results to wearing masks and throwing bricks.... AND I DON'T MEAN HANDOUTS. I mean HELP. NO you cannot have my fish... but let me take you fishing. I feel like this is something the community can ADRESS. On a NATIONAL level I think it means tough love. Yes the medicine and backlash is going to be BRUTAL BUT the out come is a healthier society that works through their problems not shoves them under the rug.

Read all the "SHTF" books and you see how areas stratify by region. Towns become basic city states, large defensible ranches becomes "towns". Honestly I worry that we must be able to form a trust between those PHISCALLY close no matter what big bro gov does.... I know this smacks of Militia talk, and if it came to that yes I would rather stand WITH my neighbors in defense of OUR home than against them. But this is not something to START as a militia but something that we work together with to negate the need in our area....

I don't know what to call it, and I'm just thinking out loud... I guess the GS is decent example, there is an underlining level of trust, though not much it is there.... how do you build that in a community? how do you not get labeled as a crazy for doing it...

idk I'm just thinking out loud, but while good fences make good neighbors, I don't want to have to invest in motion sensors and 30 foot walls to keep my family safe...

You are asking a question which most would doubt there is a fool proof answer to. We are all human. We are not going to get along with everyone. For example, I don't want to be in "community" with someone who just wants to live off of the taxes of others because they do not have the self motivation to earn a living. Now assistance because they are working hard but earning an amount less than a living wage I can agree to but just flat out living off the dollar I trashed two knees and shoulders along with several discs in my back to make because a person doesn't want to work creates some disgust in me that would prevent me from wanting any communal relationship.
I have relatives who are this way and we don't have any contact.

That is just an example of why I don't believe the "commune" you would hypothesize is possible.

you mistake me man, not COMUNE not all working together for the common good in that sense. I just mean how do you start coming together so that we can all put up with each other. On a community level how do you pull the group together enough that you respect each others as people if not anything else. Has life become so cheap to people now?

I wonder if anybody in those riots has ever heard of a real block party... or knows their neighbors....

Here is an example we use all the time in my home town... Pick up basketball games... When is the last time you saw one break out on the street? 8 kids around one hoop... Pick up a ball pick sides and PLAY. I can name SEVERAL examples of GREAT friends I have met this way, and yes some were black, and no we don't always agree but that community we built gave us the ability to develop trust. Now you have to have refs and rent the gym and bla bla... the best practice you get on ball is PLAYING, and then when you do something dumb you get heckled by your buddies. This trust allows you to disagree but still work together... your not shunned because your different, which I don't care what you say is how it works now... you rock the boat your out.

Kids develop this community NATRUALLY more times than not... how does a community do that...

Like I said I think there is probably >5% of the population that TRULLY abuses the system... and yes they need STRONG STRONG medicine... But to the others who TRY... how do you bring in those that try, make them the "leaders" in the community... Then a community can look to the ones who abuse and learn to teach that it is shameful...

About all that an individual can do is try and be a "GOOD" neighbor and hope it spreads.

The rioting seems to be what brings these communities together. They just need to do it peacefully now.
Oh, You're never gonna have many Asian friends with a name like catslayer ...just saying

If something is broken you have to go to the creator to learn how to fix it. This world that we live in is broken. Our creator, Lord, and Savior knows how to fix it. We are given scripture so that we can learn truth. Get in the word daily. Get your children in the word daily. We were created to live in community with each other. So if you want to know how to build community, you are going to have to go to the source.

You change culture, education, family life, add in Christian principles, a FATHER and 1 generation later, you will have what you want.

Our society is removing these things

FTR, this is the age old societal question and its the very reason that cultures fall. There is no single solution, the various theoretical solutions are hard if not impossible to implement, and even if implemented full scale buy in hard to achieve because human selfish nature plays into it.

This is also why there are 6 comments here and 411 in the Baltimore is Burning thread. We are great at pointing out problems but very few actually offer solutions.

I am not going to say that what you are wanting is a pipe dream, but it will be very difficult to come come by. There are to many external forces trying to draw people apart instead of bringing them together. You will always have the haves and the have nots, and those that are wanting something for nothing. You have the hate mongers stirring up discontent. You even have different political parties pulling us apart instead of finding common ground to better the country. We have the freedom in this country to have opposing views and as such , we will not always get along. The best way to settle a dispute is though communication. Both sides need to understand where the other side is coming from. Most of the places that have rioted have a history of one side not trusting the other. Trust, again, comes from communication.

If you knew His word you would know the way He intends to fix this world is to burn it. Yes prayer, study and supplication are important but He has already set forth the way of the new heaven and earth. And from what I have read it doesn't come from people and it won't be peaceful.

Bingo! "Do unto others", comes to mind. Also, judge a man by the "content of his character" not the shade of his suntan! :-)

For a huge % that is the case. But sadly a overwhelming % of self identified church goers do not apply the biblical principles to their everday life! We are incredibly and increasingly a judgmental society. Good discussion either way.
