Although I've been guilty of this before (from both sides of a transaction), I won't do it anymore/again.
You know the deal: someone is selling something in the classified section and someone agrees to buy it. Either buyer or seller suggest: 'send payment via Paypal as a 'gift''.
Well, it's not a 'gift'. Someone is selling and someone is buying.
The transaction contemplates using Paypal's system to transmit funds from one person to another. But rather than paying Paypal what they have a right to for providing the service, people agree to call it a 'gift' to avoid Paypal's fees.
Don't think that I am a big Paypal supporter. I definitely have my issues with them (primarily dealing with how they deal with disputes). However, if they offer a service for a fee and someone chooses to use that service, is it right to lie about the use to avoid the small fee Paypal charges?
Is it worth lying (calling it a 'gift' when it isn't) and stealing (not paying Paypal for the service you ask them to provide) to save $2 or $3?
Not a rant, just an opinion.
