    Are you stealing? From Paypal?

Although I've been guilty of this before (from both sides of a transaction), I won't do it anymore/again.
You know the deal: someone is selling something in the classified section and someone agrees to buy it. Either buyer or seller suggest: 'send payment via Paypal as a 'gift''.
Well, it's not a 'gift'. Someone is selling and someone is buying.
The transaction contemplates using Paypal's system to transmit funds from one person to another. But rather than paying Paypal what they have a right to for providing the service, people agree to call it a 'gift' to avoid Paypal's fees.
Don't think that I am a big Paypal supporter. I definitely have my issues with them (primarily dealing with how they deal with disputes). However, if they offer a service for a fee and someone chooses to use that service, is it right to lie about the use to avoid the small fee Paypal charges?
Is it worth lying (calling it a 'gift' when it isn't) and stealing (not paying Paypal for the service you ask them to provide) to save $2 or $3?
Not a rant, just an opinion.

    ...it must be offseason.

Yes, I do and will continue to do so until the option no longer exists or until there are other, more viable solutions.

I sent $$$ to a relative recently as a gift...I got charged 3%. I could be wrong, but I think Paypal get's their money either way...just depends who gets hit for the fees, sender/receiver.

The payment option is only to protect the buyer. If I am comfortable selecting gift (which would give me zero protection) then that is what i would do. I would not select gift if I didn't know the person or have someone vouch for them. And fyi the fees are much greater than $2-$3.

I've done it both ways. Depends on who I am dealing with. If you check that it is a 'gift' if it goes bad (you don't get what you paid for) Paypal will not act on your behalf. If you don't check it as a "gift transaction", then both buyer and seller retain rights that are protected by PayPal.

However, I think there is a limit you can 'gift' anyway.

LOL...me too. I only do it with TBH buddies. I buy a lot on ebay where I don't have that option. I also use a paypal credit card for my business....so I don't feel like I'm lying.....my standards prolly don't live up to the OP's

fwiw....I also dropped off a small bag of garbage at a state picnic area.......with a "No household trash" sign in plain view

PayPal charges you a fee regardless of whether it's a "gift" or not. They get their money

I can't say I have never done it because I honestly don't remember but it is easier for me to just add a few bucks and call it good.

Only way it is "free" is if you use your paypal balance.

Other wise someone is paying the fee on one end of the deal.

Should learn a little more about the subject to be ranted upon.

They get their Money either way. Gift just means buyer pays it instead. They are not doing Anythijg for free that option just tells them who the charge their fee to

This is not true either. If it is linked to your bank acct, and you have a zero paypal balance, the money is taken from your bank acct, and there is still no fee.

Maybe you should learn a little more about the subject!
