    Will a hognose snake...

Eat eggs? My wife has a broody hen and last night something got all but one of the eggs she was setting on and caused her to move to a different nest. This afternoon we found a 2+ foot hognose snake within 15 or 20 yards of the hen house. Since our kitties have disappeared, we have been overrun with yellow bellied water snakes and now this one. Haven't seen a chicken snake (Texas rat snake) recently. I personally believe any snake will eat eggs, (Imy sister once found a copperhead in a bluebird nest eating eggs) but I'm wanting some more input.

They primarily eat frogs and toads, don't think that they are egg eaters. Probably have a big rat snake around.

I'm not aware of them eating eggs, but they are a toad frogs worst nightmare.

I couldn't see a snake eating a bunch of eggs at one time.

My Great Uncle used to put a wooden egg in with the real eggs in the nest. A black rat snake swallowed it and couldn't get back through the crack in the henhouse. Found him lodged there.

Put a couple of golf balls in the nests and you will find out.

Any 2' snake is gonna have trouble eating chicken eggs.

As said, put a golf ball in the nests and that'll be his last meal.

I found this on Google. They will eat Eggs, but it doesn't say anything about Chicken Eggs.http://www.fcps.edu/islandcreekes/ec...nose_snake.htm

A big one might but I don't think a two footer could get a chicken egg swallowed. Frogs, salamanders and mice are their main choices.

Of course they will. It's a free meal that they have to expend little energy on.
